You will also get the lock file message if OpenCPN does not close cleanly. If it crashes it will leave a stale lock file behind. Do this:

gdb opencpn
run

If O traps in the debugger you will see a message and you can do a trace back which may point to the problem.

Ok so I think this is whats causing the error to pop up...

I think that message is just a warning. It doesn’t seem to be the reason it closed. O did not crash.
