Does anyone know if there are charts available for US Inland Lakes that will work with OpenCPN? I am specifically interested in Lake Sidney Lanier near Atlanta, GA. I currently use Navionics on my tablet, but would be interested in using OpenCPN as well so I can get more familiar with the program and features.
I also have an older RaymarineChartplotter with the appropriate charts for the lake. Any help is appreciated.
Are there charts available for that lake? Who publishes them? The US Army Corps of Engineers is responsible for navigation on inland waterways and publishes electronic charts in the Inland Electronic Navigation Chart (IENC) format which is compatible with OpenCPN. Their charts cover major rivers but I haven't seen anything for lakes that aren't connected with the inland waterways. Searching their site at http://www.usace.army.mil/ would be a good place to start, though.
USACE does not have digital charts of non-navigable lakes. Sorry.
I have some I made from Terraserver images. 2 resolutions of color topo charts and 2 resolutions of B&W aerial photos. Not much, and the edges don't line up perfect.
This weekend I'll post some examples. I also have Allatoona. Same as above plus part of it in color photo.
