What operating system is running on your RPi?
From the terms you are using it seems to be something based on Debian/Ubuntu.
If you do not know, please post output of the following commands:
Code:
lsb_release -a
cat /etc/debian_version
Even if you do know, we would like to see the output of
to see from where are you trying to upgrade.

Re: opencpn cannot update
You can also go the open plotter route.

Yeah ok. Not very easy to do that at the mo as I am on the boat and it’s a lot of writing and cannot copy it over as I have no internet on the raspberry. I’ll do that ASAP. Cheers

OK, so I suppose
Code:
apt-cache policy|grep opencpn
gives you something like
Code:
500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/nohal/opencpn/ubuntu trusty/main armhf Packages
release v=14.04,o=LP-PPA-nohal-opencpn,a=trusty,n=trusty,l=OpenCPN,c=main,b=armhf
Right?
If that is the case, it was not very smart from the OpenPlotter people to use my, now unused, beta repository instead of the official one... Especially without ever letting me know.
Anyway, I have just copied the 4.8.0 packages from the official PPA there so later today you should be able to upgrade to 4.8.0

Re: opencpn cannot update
Hi all
We are not using nohal repo on OpenPlotter, we use the official one, so you must be using a really old one. Download this: Download OpenPlotter RPI v0.10.0 NOOBS | Sailoog and update to 0.17.0 from OP menu.
We do not support this HAT: https://www.tindie.com/products/mcm_...-raspberry-pi/ because they never contacted us, we never tested this hardware, we ignore who they are and what are their plans. People developing hardware proclaiming to be supported by software but never contacted software developers... quite strange...
Edit: Where did you get the copy of openplotter? Did they give it to you?

Oh ok. That’s a pity. I didn’t know this. It is a clever little thing but if the software won’t update its not much good to me I suppose. I am a long way short of an expert. I just wanted a little play. Thanks anyway

Re: opencpn cannot update
Sailoog: "We do not support this HAT"
Does this mean it does not work or will not work in the future?
I added a link to it because it looked more than useful, although it is expensive.
https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do...r_hat_from_mcm
Please advise.

Re: opencpn cannot update
They have not tested it and did not have any contact with the vendor.
So OpenPlotter has no idea which are the requirements, drivers or software versions or tweaks to support this board/hat.
As result we see for example the very outdated PPA.
