Sorry to be so late responding. My logfile is attached. It shows four program launches. The first time OpenGL was turned on and I saw the delay in painting the toolbar. I turned OpenGL off and launched the program a second time. The toolbar appeared without any delay. I turned OpenGL back on, launched the program a third time and the delay was back. I launched OpenCPN a fourth time (with OpenGL on) because I forgot to copy the log file to the clipboard.

It seems pretty clear the delay is related to OpenGL.
