Wind particles view very nice and certainly useful! Thanks!
I think it is best used to look at wind patterns over a relatively large area. For this, the particles are better seen on a not so detailed chart - usually just the background chart will suffice. Here, it would be nice if one could very easily switch off all other charts.
In other words, an empty, or "basic only" chart group would help to fully appreciate the particles view ...
Maybe this can be done today, but just now I do not see how ?

You got a point. Why not let an empty chart-group just show the background map. As it is now "all" charts will be shown if the chart-group is empty. No need for that as that alternative already exists. Let an empty group be MT!

As the file seemed to be too big, I renamed it to .pdf type, however, it is just the plain text..... ok??
Best regards,
Uwe
Uwe...
Yes, that's it. I have some candidates, but as there is a pretty big part of the initialization process between those two messages are logged, one question: How many routes/tracks/waypoints do you have? A lot (Thousands Tracks covering very long trips)?
Yes, I have a number of tracks and routes covering some 20.000 miles - however, something happened lately, which I haven't reported: I used the weatherfax plugin and a satellite image, which I tried to adapt to the chart (some conical image to be put over a mercator map) and this messed up my tracks completely ... so, I have no problem, to just delete them all (I have a number of backups if necessary ...:-) )
On the other hand - the previous Beta also was a bit slow during startup, but by far not as slow as this one...
Does this give you any clue?
Best regards and - really - thank you very much for your help and responses as well as for this GREAT product, which replaced all other plotters I used so far....
Uwe...
Although I don't see anything that should explicitly cause it in the latest changes, there is a simple way to check on your system:
- Exit OpenCPN
- Open the same folder where you found the logfile
- Rename file navobj.xml to say navobj.bak
- Start OpenCPN
In case it will improve the starting speed significantly, I would be interested in that file a lot for testing.
Then exit OpenCPN and rename navobj.bak back to navobj.xml to restore your data.
that did it..... :-) btw. I have a number of navobj files there (sequence numbers navobj.xml.1 - .9) .....
So, the one I have is 2.7 MB, how would you like to get it???
sorry for replying late.... Here is the link: navobj.xml.avi
OK??
BTW, I renamed the "oldest" navobj. ... and got back my 2old routes..... fantastic. However, also this "old" and functioning file takes long during opening OpenCPN....
another idea:
as these back-up xml files are most probably almost as big as the actual one - why not backing up everything (all the navobj files)?
OCPN will start with a blank/empty file and you might have a look how long this takes.
.... yes, thanks, this is, what I did, sorry, if I wasn't clear in my answer to Pavel who suggested that in the first place: Yes, OpenCPN starts in almost a blink of an eye with an empty navobj.xml. No Problem - and as I said, I have no problem working that way, however, I believe Pavel is interested to find out why in this beta the startup is as slow as it is with a big navobj.xml. So, if the data I have available can help with this, I think it is a worthwhile exercise, as "longdistance sailors" may ru into the same problem than I - except my xml file is corrupted in one way or another, soemthing I do not know. OK??

Very good study material. I suppose we have our guilty party. Do you have an idea how the track "Atlantic-Circuit 2009-2010-reduced" got created?
yes I know exactly: At that time I didn't use OpenCPN (so sorry..... :-( ) but "Fugawi". So I "reduced " the "Fugawi Track" from several thousand points to the current size (there is a function, where all points which are within some 10 metres of the track are just ignored). Then I used Fugawi to "export" the Fugawi-track to a GPX track, which I then imported to OpenCPN.
Uwe... Funny, because it did not actually reduce the number of points at all - the route still has more than 15000 of them, always many with the same coordinates (rounded to whole degrees), but different timestamps. I have some ideas what to do in such a case, stay tuned for the next beta.
before you do something....... As I said, this is a corrupted file, as it got totally messed up when I tried to use the weatherfax plugin to adjust a satellite image...... If you want to look at a "good" file, I shall send you another navobj.xml - the one I now created from the "backup" xmls. Here you will see that all the points have diferent coordinates and you have smooth lines... Do you want to have that file?? As I said, OpenCPN takes about the same time to start up with this "correct" file.... OK??
If you want me, I can send you this file on the same way, just tell me, if this is ok with you, ok??
