Can you repeat these with a backtrace?

I can't repeat the first condition, but behaviour is odd when trying to minimise O while running cache update.
If I minimise O then the chart disappears, but I'm still left with the toolbar, cache update bar, chart bars at the bottom and the GPS status top right. Restoring O only gets the cache update and other fragments back on top. I am struggling at the moment though to get any consistent behaviour.

The other crash followed a hang-up sometime overnight - the elapsed time suggested after about 7 hours. Not immediately repeatable.

While making a route in touch mode I was unable to pan off the screen or change scale of chart until the route was ended. Works fine with touch mode off.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1731 Released

About half of my 1,500 .kap charts have been cached out to about 650nm, but O doesn't want to do any more with a full chart database rebuild.

Is there a limit on how large the cache is? It's currently about 2Gb.

Will the rest be cached when the boat moves beyond 650nm from where it is now?

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1731 Released

Hello Dave,

I installed S63, 331731 in the release.

1 This seems to work with the test charts. Borders are red when they should be green. I asked how they PythéasF54 home, as me, he said "Red."

2 Since we have 3 charts S57 SHOM (test charts, which obviously show without S63) borders of these three charts are green S57. But I observe that the green in question is very light green. Is it possible to replace it with a slightly darker green to be visible on blue backgrounds charts?

Gilletarom...

The S63 chart outlines color for OpenGL is incorrect in this Beta. Cause is understood, color is correct if OpenGL is not used. Will be fixed in next Beta.
Also, we can adjust the color somewhat. Green may be too light...

Thanks
Dave

Mine do this too -black where should be transparent when OpenGL enabled; sometimes another colour when it is not....
Converting to png format seemed to fix issue when Open GL disabledbut now I'm not so sure!....not yet anyways...(still tinkering)

Users report here the same with their own sea boys. They have been looking good before with Linux. No feedback from Windows users here so far.

And there are several issues with the Mac version from opencpn.org:

1. Crash closing AIS list window:

2. NMEA window opens below OCPN main window.

3. Several funktions brings waiting mouse pointer, program stalls.

4. Too much CPU usage with up to 100%.

5. Transparent symbol bar not checkable in settings.

6. AIS alert window: Acknowledge button no function.

7. Several Zooming problems.
Why has the accelerator key changed to ALT key?
Scaling is not synchronized with different zooming modes. No chance to get back the same scaling factor when zooming mode once changed from (+)/(-) to mouse wheel or alt-(+)/(-) back or forward.
Overzooming warning pops up when it should not, example below with CM93 charts, zooming done with alt-key and (+)/(-):

8. Chart information window with strange behavior: no chart window with Quilting on, but pops up together with other windows opened, sometimes information chart window does not disapear.

9. The Mac version from opencpn.org is still using wx 2.9.5. Sean has played with wx 3.0. There are however several bugs fixed for OS X in latest wx 3.1.

Obviously the Sean optimizations are done for Raspbery Pi and not only useless but sometimes bad for other hardware. There is no difference with different options settings of OpenGL for Mac OS X. The bad behavior still exists with 3.3.1731 from opencpn.org.

After all I have not tested all functions of your 3.3.1731 version with OS X. But this first look is rather disappointing.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1731 Released

Memory leak ?

Using a Eeepc 915 with Xubuntu 14.04, 1 gig memory + 1 gig swap.
I started texture compression cache run on a directory with 1.5 gig of kaps.
The first time estimation was 9 h later increased to about 12 h.

After about 10 -11 h O had stopped, "quit unexpectedly", no error report (xubuntu feature) was possible due to "lack of memory", or similar wording.

+++++
Next, using the same computer.
Adding a chart directory on a USB stick with 1.6 gigs of kaps. OK this was a bit optimistic considering the available memory, and crashed, not totally surprising.

Any attempts to restart O resulted in a crash as soon as the chart picture was due to appear. Nothing sensible from ddd/backtrace. This was repeated seveal times. Starting with a fresh opencpn.conf solved the problem. The bad opencpn.conf is attached.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1731 Released

Gerhard....

1. Please post the part of your opencpn.log which shows the OpenGL setup/configuration.

2. We will stay with wx2.95 for a bit longer. Nothing in this Beta depends on wx3.0, and it has known bugs. And wx3.1 is even more unstable.

3. OpenGL optimizations are not focused on ARM processor at all. They apply generally to all OpenGL enabled systems.

4. Please note that most of the OpenGL optimizations apply to raster charts mainly, and vector charts less so.

5. Keep the faith. This is what Beta testing is all about. We kill bugs one-by-one.

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1731 Released

Testing textures...
A folder of 75 kap charts (280 Mo)
raster_texture_cache: 238 Mo
Processing took 2,5 hours on a rather low end 4 Go PC (Athlon X2 dual core QL-62)
I guess there will be many questions on the largest French Forum (HeO):
What's the use, What for, What to expect ?
At present, I am at a loss what to answer...
