Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.814 Released

Just to have a look at the upcoming release I downloaded the 3.1.814 version from the opencpn site. Looks promising!!

Parallel to this version, I have 3.0.2 running. While opening the route manager, it took around 12sec. before the screen showed up. Maybe too early because the release has not been released yet, just thought I'd let you know. BTW, in 3.0.2 it's the same behaviour. I only have four routes and one active. Maximum length of a route is 60Nm and 15 route points.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.814 Released

George, I've noticed that too. With 3.1.814 in(development debug mode with MS Visual Studio), I get wxWidget notices for the wxWidget timer. [You would not see these in the compiled beta exe version.] By ignoring these notices (canceling) about 4 or 5 times, the Route Manager will eventually pop up. This most often happens every time you start OpenCPN beta and the Route Manager for the first time of the session. After that it seems more responsive and pops up right away without the notices. I don't know what it is doing, but it may be initializing and querying your route database, which is small as you point out. You could try making more waypoints and routes and see if it takes longer. -On the forum for Beta, some people were having difficulty deleting entire routes, but don't know what the resolution was. I suppose we could try to stress test the route manager further to help the guys programming.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.814 Released

I did the following test:
- size navobj.xml = 618kb
- start opencpn 3.1.814 (no connection to gps port)
- open routemanager --> 35seconds (3 routes including 1 active route, appr. max. 60Nm and 15 routepoints)
- close routemanager
- open routemanager --> 18sec
- close route manager
- open routemanager --> 18 sec
- import gpx-file with 59 routes (load time 19sec.)
- close routemanager
- open routemanager --> 17sec
- close routemanager
- close opencpn
- filesize navobj.xml = 1.017kb
- start opencpn
- open routemanager --> 32sec
- close routemanager
- open routemanager --> 16sec

Two comments on this:

1. Running under the VS2010 Debugger is SLOW. This is what causes timer assert errors, which can be cancelled and ignored. Never measure execution times and such when running in this mode. It is something like an order of magnitude slower than a real run.

2. You can switch VS2010 to "Release" build, and run from .../build/Release. This way you get a full speed executable without having to do a full install. Just remember you might need to copy s57data and uidata folders to .../build/Release too!

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.814 Released

George, et al....

There is a code bug in github master in routemanagerdialog. Could cause very long dialog load time. Solution is understood.

Look for a commit to fix this later today.
