There is no UI setting to do that. But if you switch to one of the Journeyman UI styles it is much less invasive. And if you edit your styles.xml file you can change the size of the buttons to be even smaller. But you can't turn it off completely.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.802 Released

Thanks for the response.

This new implememtation of the "Chart Selection Bar' in V3.1 really messes up GE2KAP. I can get around it by changing to The Jouneyman styles but it will show the Chart selection Bar in the resulting chart.

Do you think we could implement a way to turn off the Chart Selection Bar? Perhaps a hotkey.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.802 Released

Two issues running 3.1.802:

1) The measure arrow pic is not transparent, it draws a brown square around it. Same with the navigation arrows near the sides of the screen. When I try to dump a screen, it does no show the arroys or it background on the png.

2) If I minimize the window, I can't maximize it again, only solution is to kill opencpn.

I'm running debian 6.0, opencpn compiled from sources, no GL.

BTW, nice improvements otherwise.

Could you run "dpkg-query -l 'libwx*'" to see which version you have of wxWidgets? You need 2.8.12.

Well 2.8.10 has bugs and there is not a whole lot I can do about that...

There are 2.8.12 packages available. See http://wiki.wxpython.org/InstallingOnUbuntuOrDebian

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.802 Released

Dave-Thomas..

There are several problems with GE2KAP since the introduction of OCPN versions higher than 3.0.2.
I thought Paul had mentioned it here, but evidently not.

1. When you start GE2KAP as well as a new OCPN version,an OCR session is started and you have to
teach GE2KAP how to recognize the characters used. In the latest OCPN version these characters are
now un-readable even for humans.

2. Another issue is that any converted chart looses the color, especially for all the navigation lights.

3. The third problem is the new way the Chart selection bar is now displayed, making it impossible to
hide in the chart conversions. I use the Journeyman style so this is not an immediate problem for me.

As I for one,use GE2KAP virtually daily,I am now ´stuck with´v. 3.02 until this is fixed.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.802 Released

Dave..

I downloaded OCPN v. 3.1.802 today as a double entry in order to test GE2KAP.

As you can see from the attached it was impossible to continue as the OCR session
failed. I was therefore also unable to check the color problem in the converted chart.

Tore,

Did you set the font for the status bar to Veranda, Regular, size=10?

When OpenCPN V3.1.. is installed the font for the status bar is so small you can't read it and neither can GE2KAP. They should probably make the same as the previous version.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.802 Released

Changing the font should get past the OCR recognition but GE2KAP still will not work because of the change to the Chart Selection bar made in in OpenCPN V3.1..

Seems that instead of having the bar in a separate window as was in V3.0.., it now is drawn right on the chart window. I need a way to turn off the Chart Selection bar before I capture the chart window.

Using the Journeyman styles will allow a correct chart to be created (except for the colour problem Tore reports) but the Chart Selection bar will be in the resulting chart unless OpenCPN is in fullcreen mode. But in Traditional mode because the background for the Chart Selection bar is not transparent, GE2KAP cannot get the lat/lon of the lower corners of the chart.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.802 Released

Paul..

Running OCPN in duplex mode for testing purposes, the Chart bar has VERY small characters
and the OCR window unreadable. Changing it from Veranda 10 to 12 did not help until I changed
to size 14. It is now readable but creates double and triple key entries for many of the characters
and in the end the red warning message is displayed. I AM running in the Journeyman style but
can´t get further.

Dave..

I´m surprised that the problem with the very small font in the Chart selection bar has not
been mentioned by anyone earlier, after all, v. 3.1.802 has been out for 10 days??

A lot of burning hoops to jump through and many considerations to make when developing
software,appreciate your efforts.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.802 Released

Paul..

As you suggested,I turned off Clear type, which you can well see from the inferior fonts here and everywhere,BUT,
the OCR worked and the chart was created without a hitch. The color is also fine now as you can see from the attached.

Only problem is,I got a calibration error saying the overlay chart is 1350 m out? This is a Brazilian Navy original bsb/kap
chart and seems to be out by quite a bit in the latitude. Other Brazilian original charts are better but still shows a small
error in latitude.

Other problem is the Chart selection bar at the bottom.

And finally, having to alter the Clear type off/on each time I create a chart.

Paul..

I set the font to Veranda bold 12 and it worked fine.
Did not change Journeyman/Traditional settings. (whatever they are?)

Still got the calibration error message 1200 m this time and I HAD to move a little bit to get a match.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.802 Released

Paul..

I switched to Journeyman and Veranda bold 12 and all is fine except for the
ugly Chart selection buttons which I tried to eliminate by making them transparent.
Did not work for some reason..

You could of course crop the overlay before calibration but that would probably
destroy the originally collected calibration data?

Dave.. I think I can live with these settings and results until you can find a way to
optionally remove the Chart selection bar,at least in FULL PAGE MODE!!
