OpenCPN and Vesper AIS

Hi, I have just replaced my laptop after an accident with a cup of tea (!) and am going through the pain of getting email up and running, reinstalling software etc. I have downloaded the latest version of OpenCpn which seems to have installed correctly. However I can't get it to show the AIS information from my Vesper AIS transponder. I know the AIS signal is working fine as it is showing correctly on the Watchmate app on my mobile phone. Is there some setting in OpenCpn I have to adjust? Any suggestions please?

Re: OpenCPN and Vesper AIS

Allan..
How is the output connection from the AIS arranged?
Are there:
- Serial NMEA0183?
- Network? Wired? Wireless?
- NMEA 2000?

Thanks for your response. The Vesper output is wireless.

Re: OpenCPN and Vesper AIS

Then your PC needs to be connected to the same network and OCPN to use a network connection as described in the Vesper manual. I read in this if it's the same device. As mentioned you can use the Vesper Network or use a router.
If you want to connect your PC to another network (for Internet?) you need a router.

The other way is to use a serial NMEA0183 connection as described in the Vesper manual. Then you may need a serial to USB converter. (If you don't have a COM port on the PC.)

See more about OCPN connections here and here

A search for "vesper opencpn" in your favourite search engine would have revealed the following link
