opencpn and BU353 crash

Hello, I use opencpn on an hp dv7 with no problem, but on my hp mini, open cpn loose the contact with the gps BU353 sometime after 3 sec sometime after an hour. The gps BU353 never crash with GPSINFO the basic software come with it. when it crash with open cpn, open cpn cannot open com3 anymore, device manager say this device is working perfectly. If i try to restart gpsinfo after opencpn crash i have an errorcom port. I tried different version of the driver and different version of opencpn, different setting in driver manager, still have the problem, any idee ???
Thanks

I don't have one but I know this has come up before... a "search this forum" gave this

...not sure but I think you have to be logged in to see the link above.

Re: opencpn and BU353 crash

I started a thread a year or so titled "gps dropping out". There was no intrinsic solution, but if you install the free XPort, it solves the problem nicely. It maps an actual USB port to a phantom Com port that OpenCPN can read without dropping out.

Re: opencpn and BU353 crash

I have exactly the same problem but on my DV7. After a few minutes of running OpenCPN 3.02 with the latest Prolific driver, Windows hangs with a minidump and a blue screen.

The same Prolific and BU-353 works by themself forever with the Sirfdemo utility but if i launch OpenCPN it blue screen after a few minutes. This computer is pristine, legit Windows 7 64 bits and minimal software installed. If OpenCPN is alone running then no problem. It is really the interaction of OpenCPN with the Prolific-BU-353 driver....

northcaptain....

I'd sure like to get a handle on this bug, but I don't have access to a win7/64 machine.

If you can send me a copy of the minidump file created on the crash, I may be able to dissect it and learn something.

Thanks
Dave

I have found WhoCrashed invaluable when tracking the cause of a blue screen...

Re: opencpn and BU353 crash

Hi Dave i have tried the same config with MaxSea and it works forever without crashing. I will clean up the machine and generate a new dump and post it somewhere with an URL.

I think i should also try the 3.1.714 version.

Cheers

I was about to upgrade my netbook to 3.0.2 but I am reluctant to do so with the potential problem. No problem with 3.0.0.

I use xport on netbook it works well.
