OpenCPN 5 does not connect to virtual COM ports

Set up:
- W10;
- GPS+AIS to PC via USB and COM4;
- Virtual COM port created with com0com (CNCA0-->COM7);
- hum4com route all COM4 to virtual COM port CNCA0 (COM7);

Device manager and OpenCPN shoes COM7 as available in the Port section.

Putty connected to COM7 shoes all the NMEA0183 sentences being transmitted and received.

Other softwares can connect to virtual COM7 and get the data ok...

BUT OpenCPN (with the correct connection parameters set) does not connect to COM7.

This need confirmation...anyone ?

Remember: You cannot have any other software using that port or it will not show up!
Perhaps that is the problem?

Re: OpenCPN 5 does not connect to virtual COM ports

Good point... I made shure that it was not the case and even took the extra precautionary step to reboot W10 to test again.

Re: OpenCPN 5 does not connect to virtual COM ports

Good point... allow me to rephrase my last answer:

My virtual port does show up in O Communication tab.
I also made sure that nothing else is connected to it.
Even took the extra precautionary step to reboot W10 fresh and test again.
Nonetheless, O show no data flow in the NMEA debug window.
Lastly, this virtual com port works fine with other softwares (putty, Airmail...) when tested subsequently

Re: OpenCPN 5 does not connect to virtual COM ports

Found the solution after reading this thread :OpenCPN 5 can not connect to USBserial device (virtual COM port) in Windows 10.

CTS, RTS and DRT need activation on the Virtual Port. Fortunately, com0com not only allows this makes it easy to do.

Hope this help.

A virtual port requires to ring the bell to release/bar a buffer????
Pin X on the DB9 plug..

Does that make any sense but using some very ancient driver models?
Asking to learn...

Pin X? Not come across a pin x before.

Back in the days of teleprinters bell had special features and one at one stage was to signify that the carriage was at the end of line.

The bell key on the other hand was specifically for waking up/annoying the operator at the other end
