Re: OpenCPN 5 and Run error message "0xc000001d"

I just installed OpenCPN on an XP SP3 virtual machine and it went without a hitch and runs in both OpenGPL and non OpenGPL graphics modes. There is no issue with OS compatibility.

Re: OpenCPN 5 and Run error message "0xc000001d"

I tried it at 1 cpu processor and 512Mb RAM also and it was slow and prone to temporary freezes zooming on charts, but otherwise working fine. You most likely have a driver issue or possibly even faulty hardware. Perhaps you can try a different graphics card/driver or swap out RAM for testing if you haven't already done so?

Re: OpenCPN 5 and Run error message "0xc000001d"

Reefmagnet ... thanks for all your efforts and for engaging ... no other symptoms of driver or h/w issues ... I don't have an alternative graphics card, however, I may be able to change (rollback?) the graphics driver currently in use ... I could also run some RAM tests, however, there have been no other symptoms of an issue there either ... FFF

Have you read this?

https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topi...to-initialize/

There are numerous other threads about this. In some cases the issue is that the old CPU does not support SSE/SSE2 instruction set. What CPU do you have?

Re: OpenCPN 5 and Run error message "0xc000001d"

Hey transmitterdan ... no, I had not read the M-bytes article you have pointed me to ... interesting ... thank you for that one ... I kinda' wondered about the processor thing, as I ran into issues installing Firefox versions 49 or higher due no SSE2 processor support ...

Off the top of my head, my processor is a Pentium III 1 GHz ... beyond that, I'll have to pull the detailed processor ID info next time I'm at my boat ...

Picking up post Pentium 3 era pc's for a song isn't too hard. Might be time for an upgrade?

... yeah ... I'm smelling fresh-brewed coffee more often these days on that score ... I have a Lenovo T61 laptop all set up and ready to go ... just gotta' fix a physical sound h/w issue to make the T61 all 'round useful ...

Re: OpenCPN 5 and Run error message "0xc000001d"

OK ... so, I brought this old Dell 1 GHz PC home to connect to the web and let it commence to pull down loads and loads of Windows Updates ... so, to digress, there's one of my questions answered ... XP originally had the 'Windows Update' feature, which a user was eventually encouraged to supercede with 'Microsoft Update'. I have found that the Dell PC with 'Windows Update' would still pull down updates ... a different XP SP3 machine (which was otherwise fully updated long ago) I have here that was upgraded to 'Microsoft Update' will not (just scans and scans without end), for reasons as yet unknown.

I have done everythig I can think to do to get OpenCPN 5.0.0+9065270 to run on this system ... it still fails to successfully launch, with the exact same error as it did initially (see my first post to this thread).

Anyways, the Dell's 1 GHz (non-SSE2) processor ID info is (excerpt from SiSoftware Sandra Lite 2005.SR1 CPU & BIOS Information log):
Processor
Model : Intel(R) Pentium(R) III
Speed : 998MHz
Performance Rating : PR1198 (estimated)
Type : Standard
Package : FC-PPGA Socket370
Multiplier : 15/2x
Generation : G6
Name : P6C (Coppermine) Pentium IIIE 180nm 500MHz-1.13GHz 1.3-1.75V
Revision/Stepping : 8 / A (2)
Stepping Mask : D0
Microcode : MU068A01
Core Voltage Rating : 1.750V
Maximum Physical / Virtual Addressing : 36-bit / 32-bit
Native Page Size : 4kB

At this point, I am reasonably convinced that OpenCPN 5.0.0+9065270 will not run on an XP SP3 machine if the CPU is non-SSE2.

Re: OpenCPN 5 and Run error message "0xc000001d"

OK, so ... can anyone tell me what the highest version of OpenCPN is that will run on a non-SSE2 processor-equipped XP SP3 32-bit machine?
Thanks, FFF

Re: OpenCPN 5 and Run error message "0xc000001d"

Ahhh ... found this thread here: http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...p3-167584.html
... so ... it seems OpenCPN v4.0.0 will run on non-SSE2 processor-equipped XP SP3 machines, whereas v4.2.0 and up will not (unless you know how to compile [and de-optimize for SSE/SSE2 instructions] yourself apparently, using MinGW instead of Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 or 2012) ... FFF
