OpenCPN 5.8 not showing charts (black screen)

Hello,


on my new (to me) laptop, openCPN no longer sjows any charts. I am presented with a black screen and can't figure a way to have the charts showing up. They are loaded, and in fact I can (faintly) see the charts' descriptions's popups if I hover with the mouse on the lower portion of the screen. But the blackground of the whoie app is pitch black.
I can access all the menus---the icons are visible--but can't get the charts to be visible.
System is a Thinkpad W520 running Archlinux (kernel 6.2.12) with a nVidia Quadro card (FErmi architecture with driver nVidia 390).


Help greatly appreciated!

Inland ECDIS mode enabled and therefore the program starts with the canvas in Night Mode?


On the ToolBar you can cycle through the screen modes with the Moon/Star button.

Thanks, I had tried that already, no difference, unfortunately. I am starting to thjnk is a problem with nviida/openGL, but I am not sure how to debug the issue

Further info: The version of OpencCpn I am using was installed from Arch's unofficial repositories (the so-called AUR). I tried installing the flatpak version, as recommended on OpenCPN's website, and I have a similar (perhaps the same?) problem: the charts do not appear. The screen's background is not black, it is the standard grey, but no chart shows up after I load them in the settings pane.

Did you try with OpenGL turned OFF?
Can you post your logfile?

All I did was open the app and close it. Screen was pitch black

That was it, thanks. I got the charts back (except for MBtiles which require OpenGL). Now I need to figure out why openGL does not work in opencpn while it seems to be working in other SW

I have looked at your logfile. Nothing unusual there, modern OpenGL hardware and drivers. OpenCPN initialization of GL system looks entirely normal.


You say that OpenGL on this machine is known to work with other GL apps. Can you give examples?

Google Earth works fine, and so does Steam. Both are OpenGL apps, AFAIK
