Terry...
Can you not choose any directory that you want with the "Add Directory..." button?

No. You cannot select a directory that does not begin with the C: drive. The portable version is on the desktop with its own chart directory. Selecting a chart in that directory gives a link to it from the C: drive.

In the image I have selected the JapanRev12 charts from the portable version chart folder and the link is as I've explained.

This is not the case in all previous versions.

Re: OpenCPN 5.6.2 Released

Hmmm...
Sounds like a bug in an untested configuration.
Please try this:
Manually edit the config file, and set the directory locations as you like, without c:\

[ChartDirectories]
ChartDir1= "whatever you want"
etc...

Q: Does it somehow get changed back to C:\.....?

Thanks
Dave

On my Win10 it still works as expected. Or do I misunderstand the issue?

It did not show my change and all directories are back to C:\.

The issue is with creating a portable version of the program.

And on what disk is your portable version installed?

It is on the desktop. I create them there then move to a flash drive.

A definite bug since this has worked fine for several years.

Dave agrees.

Re: OpenCPN 5.6.2 Released

So what you'd like to have is a relative path to the charts in the portable instance of O?
Relative to O program's directory like the config file?
But what if you would like to use chart files on the C:\ or E:\ disk while the portable instance is running from D:\ ?

As in all previous cases of the many portable versions I have made, the chart directories are pointed to the charts within the chart folder of the portable folder. The problem does not happen with 5.6.1 but has appeared in 5.6.2. See the two images.

Comparing the config files from the portable versions of 5.6.1 and 5.6.2 you can see the difference and hence the problem I think.

Your last question does not apply to this issue.

Thanks

Re: OpenCPN 5.6.2 Released

Hi,
Maybe this is an already known bug but ..

I upgraded OpenCPN to 5.6.2 on my Raspberry Pi. Application start up hangs on a warning window stating that /dev/ttyACM0 is unavailable. I can't close the window, have to sigkill opencpn.
This device is a connection to my USB AIS transponder, which is actually disconnected for the moment. I had to manually edit config file and remove the connection in order to make the application usable again.
Then I re-created the connection, flaged as inactive.
It works but since my AIS is kept "off" really often I will have to manually activate and deactivate the connection ..

Bug ?

Thanks !

I am now in Fiji having sailed from Tahiti a few weeks ago. Fiji straddles the International Date Line or the Antimeridian and there is a definite problem with using the Weather Routing PI and Boundaries with WRs that cross the Antimeridian. I have 'Detect Boundary' turned on and 'Detect Land' turned off and the WR fails 'Invalid Start/End inside exclusion boundary' - the Start and End points are nowhere near a Boundary. Turning 'Detect Boundary' off and 'Detect Land' on, the WR computes but passes through land because of the poor mapping of the land profile.

This issue also occurred with OpenCPN 5.6.0 and 5.6.1, and it renders WR in Fiji as unusable and at best highly unreliable. A related issue which I reported on Flyspray #FS2615 back on 17/09/2019 has never been addressed - it still does not work across the Antimeridian.

MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018)
2.6 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7
16 GB 2400 MHz DDR4
Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB
MacOS Monterey V12.3.1
And another minor display issue associated with the Antimeridian - see the screen shots. I am doing a lot of sailing back and forth across the Antimeridian in Fiji and it appears that there are logic issues with OCPN Draw and Routes & Marks.

In the screen shots below, note how parts of the route line disappear as you move close to the Antimeridian.

Both, it depends on your OS, "exe" is installer for Windows, "pkg" is installer for macOS. Which seems to be obvious from the download page though, so are you asking something else?

It is not obvious from the github page but it is from the page you mention at OpenCPN link from the help files. Got it.
