Revert the commit from 22.07.2021 or from 04.08.2021 "Harden cm93 cell quilting logic, avoiding pointer deref faults" in cm93.cpp of the git source code, compile the sources and v5.6.0 works again as before.
Sadly the developers are busy with all the different Linux versions of OpenCPN and often spoiled the macOS version this way.
Be careful also using CM93 charts. OpenCPN has several errors to show them correct e.g. missing topmarks of beacons and buoys.

Re: OpenCPN 5.6.0 Released

Clem...
We are having some difficulty reproducing the display "tearing" fault reported on Macbook Air M1. We have tested on the following real (not virtual) devices:
1. MacMini M1.
2. Macbook (x86) with Retina display.
In both cases, the cm93 quilted display with OpenGL enabled is fine, no "tearing". It is possible that the fault comes from a combination M1 processor with Retina display, as is found on modern Macbook Air M1. Or it may be due to some particular configuration of your device.
I also understand that the error does not occur on OCPN 5.2.4. So this is not a "phantom" problem. It is real, in some sense.

So, the first question is: Does anyone else have a Macbook Air M1 laptop, and able to reproduce the problem?

Second question: Since we do not have access to a Macbook Air M1 device, and would rather not buy one just to debug this problem, would you be willing/able to test some private versions of OCPN 5.6 to help isolate the effect?

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN 5.6.0 Released

Dave,

I do have a MacBook Air M1, and I have no problem testing. I never used it for sailing, but if it helps I can test.

Do you have cm93 charts available?

Dave,

I got the same problem here. Zooming in or out solved the issue, but I can imagine that that isn't always possible.

Dave,

If you need me to test anything else, if you need logs, just say so.

I would like to see the OpenCPN logfile, just the verify the OpenGL detection and setup.
Thanks

Re: OpenCPN 5.6.0 Released

I currently have OpenCPN 5.2 installed on my Raspberry Pi 4. I can't seem to find any instructions on how to upgrade to the new version 5.6. What am I missing?

Thanks.

Will you tell me the exact model number and configuration of your Macbook Air M1 machine, for reference?
Thanks

The version 5.6 is now in the repositories of Ubuntu, Debian or the Raspian OS.

Sudo apt install opencpn. That is all.

I think it is beter to install the flatpak version which is more universal for the Linux versions.

At first you must install the flatpak enviroment: sudo apt install flatpak.

And then the OpenCPN version:

flatpak install --user https://dl.flathub.org/repo/appstrea...CPN.flatpakref

To start from the terminal is: flatpak run org.opencpn.OpenCPN

Thereafter you get an icon to use Opencpn.

Update is: update in place of run in the terminal. And remove to remove the opencpn version.

You can find the information also on the OpenCPN website (flatpak)

It is working here

Flatpak is for 64 bits OS versions, as far as a know !!
