Re: OpenCPN 5.6.0 Released

Kevin...
So far so good.
I suspect the Documents folder has some special handling. Not clear.

Thanks
Dave

The Documents folder has no special handling but what you have done to install plugins now is a little bit strange.

Don't understand what you mean. I did a clean install, installed PIs from "Update Plugin Catalogue: Master". I think the only thing I did different was to create a Charts folder under the User, ie ~/Charts - this is where I put my charts (instead of ~/Documents/Charts).

Spent the whole day creating routes, calculating weather routes and installing new charts - not a hiccup all day. Looks like you nailed the problem with the Permissions. Not a sign of the Screen Recording message either.

I will keep putting OpenCPM 5.6.1 through its paces and let you know if I encounter any issues.

Thanks - Kevin

MacOS chart storage location

[Not actually a OCPNv5.6 issue - apologies.]

For many years I have kept all my charts etc. in a folder on the Shared account - with the user name Shared.

Files stored here are available to all user accounts without permissions issues.

You can then access the same chart files from different user accounts. As far as I can tell it also allows multiple users to access the charts without using up chart installation quotas.

Good suggestion. I will give it a try after I spend a few more days testing with my current configuration.

Dave, so far no issues.

Hi Dave - more than two days of putting OpenCPN 5.6.1 through its paces. No issues so far.

I will be out of comms range for 3 days sailing from Fakarava Atoll to Tahiti.

Re: OpenCPN 5.6.0 Released

Hi.

Got a little OpenGL and MB Tiles issue here & already sent the file after the crash with the report.

I used to be able to read my MBtiles in OpenCPN on this machine when using Windows 10.
Now when I switch on OpenGL it still works with CM93, but if I switch to my MBtiles and move the cursor over the chart selector at the bottom I get an immediate crash.
If I restart with minimum settings as instructed after a crash, it works, even after reenabling the plugins, but when changing the MBtiles set it crashes again.

Software:
OpenCPN 5.6.0 Plug-in API 117

Latest Windows 11Pro 21H2 Build 22000.469 with all updates applied.
Feature pack 1000.22000.469.0

Hardware:
XMG Apex 15, AMD Ryzen 5950x 16core processor, Nvidia RTX 2070, 64GB RAM.

OK Dave - on 5th day of testing with my charts in ~/Charts folder. Everything performing without a hitch. Seems that Permissions with the ~/Documents folder was the issue.

My Installed PIs are:
Dashboard (not enabled)
Climatology 1.4.39.0 (not enabled)
Polar 1.1.24.0 (not enabled)
Watchdog 2.4.39.0 (not enabled)
WWM 1.1 (enabled)
Grib 4.1 (enabled)
ChartDownloaded 1.4 (enabled)
OCPN Draw 1.8.12.0 (enabled)
WeatherRouting 1.13.35.0 (enabled)
The above PIs have all been enabled and work OK.

All settings are pretty much set to their defaults.

Even the dreaded Screen Recording message has not reappeared after ticking Allow OpenCPN.app in System Preference/Security & Privacy/Privacy/Screen Recording. (PS. I note that System Preferences has since unchecked OpenCPN.app in Screen Recording - not initiated by me).

Any other tests that you want me to perform?

MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018)
2.6 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7
16 GB 2400 MHz DDR4
Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB
MacOS Monterey V12.1

Franziska...
Not evaluated/reproduced yet.
The best way to ensure that this issue, and other like it, is addressed is to add to the Flyspray Bug Tracker, with sufficient detail to allow developers to reproduce the fault locally. That way, it will not be lost in the flood of forum traffic.

Re: OpenCPN 5.6.0 Released

Hope this is the right place to post this. I'm unable to open the HARMONIC.IDX file. I purchased a new laptop for my boat, windows-10. Nothing else installed. I installed a copy of raster charts, OpenCPN V5.60 and then plugin otcurrent 3.20-221v3.2.0. I see HARMONICS_NO_US.IDX files in tcdata onto my D drive. The C drive is almost full out of the box. When I try to launch the tide plugin, I browse to that folder but get "no items match your search". I tried renaming the files to HARMONIC but that doesn't help.

Re: OpenCPN 5.6.0 Released

Every tide/current data files consist of two different files e.g. "HARMONIC.IDX" and "HARMONIC"
Both are equally named and one with the file extension ".IDX"
If you try to copy them they are a couple and must not be separated from each other. Renaming such a file is a way to destroy the database they form together.

In the plugin manager, an old version of Dashboard Tactics is loaded, and there is also an even older version of the Tactics plugin.
Current version https://github.com/canne/dashboard_t...ses/tag/v2.0.3

The old versions are the current ones. You have the wrong repository, find mine.

Read the Development notes Petri has written under v2.0.3. This version needs a newer version of wxwidgets and has other dependencies that that current release does not support nor do certain OS. If you want to use this version you must build it yourself.
