opencpn 5.2.2 and NMEA problem

Hi all,
I updated to 5.2.2 and ran into a strange NMEA problem. The NMEA debugging window shows that my stream of sentences are coming through my actisens GWT from my raymarine network. The dashboard shows occasionally some data on depth and wind direction/speed but that all. Nothing related to GPS, course etc...

I attached a pic with opencpn setting, nmea debugging and dashboard .

Any idea on what I'm doing wrong?

Thank you so much

Olivier

Re: opencpn 5.2.2 and NMEA problem

Your artisens is spitting out a lot of sentences, however On your picture I see only some readable wind and course data. Most of the sentences start with !PARLB, this is a private message type for the artisence and can't be read by O.

On your picture the far left side of the debug window is hidden. Every line starts with a timestamp. If you receive more then say 6 to 8 lines a second your reaching the limit of the serial data capacity, this might give the artisense a data overflow.

What you can try is: Disconnect all instruments from your network, and connect them one by one to the artisense and check when it goes wrong.

Re: opencpn 5.2.2 and NMEA problem

Thanks for the advice.
The $PARLB are generated by the AIS.

Since the NMEA sentences looks ok, why does opencpn not able to interpret it? Is the problem really coming from the actisens ?

Thanks
Olivier

Re: opencpn 5.2.2 and NMEA problem

A normal AIS nmea(0183) sentense looks like this.
Code:
!AIVDM,1,1,,B,13aENJgP00PH?0hN9riHdww>20R>,0*5F<0x0D><0x0A>
Yours does have at least a complete different header, and it is the header that is used for recognizing.

The 'P' in !PARLB stands for proprietary, and is not in the official nmea standard, and therefore not recognised by OpenCPN.

I do understand why O can't use your data, but I don't know where/why it is coming from.

You don't have any GPS data there, at least not in that screen shot. You should be seeing sentences such as GPRMC coming in.

Re: opencpn 5.2.2 and NMEA problem

Did it work before upgrading OpenCPN?

I would install puTTY, and run that to look at the raw data coming from the Antisense. See if the missing sentences come through.

The proprietary data is odd. Have you run Actisence NMEA Reader? With it you can turn specific sentences on and off. Proprietary sentences would be used for programming. If those are coming from the Antisense, maybe you need to power cycle it.

I assume a typo, and you have the Antisense NGT.

No it shouldn't be. How many serial ports do you have connected and they all configured correctly in OCPN.. No clashes with other software etc??

Edit: one serial port I see.. How frequently are you seeing the GPS messages?
