Opencpn 5.10.0 + Ubuntu 22.04 + Touch Screen

Dear Team,

I hope you're doing all well, and happy new year 2025 to all!

Not sure to post this question in the right way or at the right place, but I've tried to use the search function without success. Just let me know if I am wrong.

I use to run flawlessly Opencpn up to 5.8.4 on a dedicated computer (Lenovo M910q) under Linux Ubuntu 22.04 connected to a usb touchscreen (Mimo 1080c-g) itselft installed in the cockpit in a 3d printed water tight casing epoxy coated. Just running 100% perfectly since years, super reliable!

However, since the Opencpn 5.10.0 version has been released and installed, I now face strange touchscreen behaviors only on Opencpn software. The release 5.10.2 didn't solve the issue. Installing Linux Ubuntu 24.04 neither. Everything works perfectly on Windows 11 but I rather prefer Linux environment

Learnings:
- Moving the Opencpn window itself or resizing it doesn't work any more after 2 or 3 tries and the then window position gets stuck. Opencpn works.
- The option button at the bottom right of the window (3 horizontal lines) is not accessible at all. Clicking on it has no effects.
- All works perfectly if I use a normal mouse.
- I have tried all available drivers for my material, other touchscreens and even another computer (Lenovo M720q), it gives exactly the same thing.
- No issues of this kind on Win10/11 with the same hardware.
- Until Ubuntu 22.04 + Opencpn 5.8.4, everything was absolutely perfect.

Does anyone have an idea ?

Thanks a lot in advance,

Have a great days and kind regards!

Olivier

Do you have the same issues under both Wayland and X11?

Linux is a fine OS for various experiments where one needs better access to the system BUT it is a major fail when it comes to UI/UX.

Skip.

I use OpenCPN on Windows and Android. Never any problem.

Re: Opencpn 5.10.0 + Ubuntu 22.04 + Touch Screen

Dear Opencpn Team,

Thanks for the prompt response! Quite appreciated!

Yes, it happens on both Wayland and X11. Actually Ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04 come with Wayland as default which is more recent compare to X11.
Nevertheless, facing the issues, I have also tried X11 which doesn't solve the issues and brings even other problems (eratic cursor behaviour). Therefore, I didn't further investigate this path.

On the older configuration (Ubuntu 22.04+Ocpn 5.8.4) It was always working perfectly with Wayland.

Thanks and regards,

Olivier.
