OpenCPN 5.0 bug reporting

Just got this version installed, and I liked all those improved features and changes. I am going to roll over to it soon.

However, taking this opprtunity to report a not-so-normal bevahiour, may be a bug. Here is a brief description-

On a double-map canvas layout with the dashboard docked to the right, if I undock (or hide) the dashboard, the controls-window on the right side map does not align correctly (fig1). Similarly, if I dock the dashboard on a double-map canvas, controls stay on the dashboard (fig 2).

Fig 2: https://ibb.co/PCcX0h2

Cannot end without thanking developers for a great piece of software.

Re: OpenCPN 5.0 bug reporting

V5 is just flat out crashing on startup on my Windows 7 64 bit machine. Tried re-installing and rebooting three times, no change. Backleveled to 4.8.8 and that's running fine.

Capt Tom....

If you have the time, we would like to see the OCPN logfile from the crashing sessions. I suspect a problem with OpenGL drivers.
Does O4.8.8 run OK with OpenGL ON?

Where would I find the log file?

I tried both shortcuts, with OpenGL and without. 4.8.8 runs OK either way, while 5 crashed either way.

CaptTom...

In O488 toolbar "Help" button, you will see a panel showing the location of the logfile. This will be the same location for O5. Something like:
"C:\Program Data\OpenCPN\opencpn.log"

Tom...

What crashes is your graphic adapter driver, have a look for an updated version (There will very probably be a newer one available from your machine vendor or at https://downloadcenter.intel.com/pro...aphics-Drivers than what you get with Windows updates)

That worked, thanks!!

In case anyone else runs into this, I'm running OpenCPN on an old Lenovo L420 laptop. The Intel HD 3000 Graphics driver was version 8.15.10.2622, dated 2012. The new driver is version 9.17.10.4229, dated 2015.

Re: OpenCPN 5.0 bug reporting

I have a map display problem that appeared with version 5 I have nautical charts in MBTILES format and detailed maps google sat in KAP format created with G2KAP soft With the previous version OPEN CPN 4.99 when a max zoom appeared sat cards, with the new version impossible to display them. I have changed the amount of zoom detail parameter at the zoom level but that is nothing. I do not see how to solve the problem

Re: OpenCPN 5.0 bug reporting

These KAPs need a the raster chart scale slider set to a high value, at 5 I see them like the attached, which seems just fine to me.
Remember that MBTiles layer is an overlay (more functions like transparency will come to it in the next releases), always drawn over the charts and the KAPs, although containing satellite imagery in this case, are charts so you must first turn off the overlay by clicking on the violet rectangle representing it in the chart piano bar to see them. In this particular case you would obviously have better results if you were using MBtiles also for the detailed satellite imagery.

Yes, that was a "bug" that made most of the tilesets unusable, that is why the logic was changed and MBTiles is always an overlay.

Re: OpenCPN 5.0 bug reporting

This is such a small issue that I hesitate to call it a bug but …

When I have the split screen two panel display active, and there is no GPS attached, and there is no active route then if I right-click and select from the popup menu “Move Boat Here” then the boat position only gets changed on that screen. On the other screen the own ship marker doesn’t move. Not really a big deal …

OpenCPN v5 is a Superb program! Well done.
