OpenCpn 4.8.4 crashes on Windows 10

I have just upgraded OpenCpn from 4.8.2 to 4.8.4 and installed RNC charts from Solteknik using the Fugavi site. I have had no problems with free charts over California and Seattle but now it crashes rather often when shifting actual chart. The last item in the log records initializing of charts but no other messages.
I saw that for version 4.0 there should be an option for enabling problem logging but can not find this item in the .ini file.

Any idea of how to proceed?

Many of us, like me, are running Win10, O 4.8.4 and the Fugawi plugin using the same charts as you without problem.
I'm not aware of any extended log setting for OCPN itself nor Fugawi plugin.

First I assume you have the last version of OCPN 4.8.4 from opencpn.org download?
You do use OpenGL I suppose?
Then I'd have tried to clean the raster charts cache: tools->Display->Advanced->...OpenGL-[Options]->Clear Texture Cache
Then rebuild the charts database Tools->Charts-> []Force Full Database Rebuild.


If crashes still occurs please try to find out if there are any particular chart(s) involved when you perform a chart shift. And, BTW, what exactly do you mean by "Shifting charts", is it when you click a chart bar -or?

If you are using OpenGL acceleration, empty the texture map, or reset it and then try running a full chart database rebuild. I have occasionally found this to be necessary when updating O.


If that does not work. Close O. Save your opencpn.ini file to a new name like opencpn.ini.old and restart O. You will have to setup your Chart directories, folders and other settings etc. again, but often the problem can be the ini file. If that does not fix it you can go back to your old ini. Also sometimes I use the old ini to just copy key sections that I want, using notepad++, but that is for users who know what they are doing most of the time.

To help localize the problem, please try a test, running with OpenGL OFF.
