maybe the solution is to have a "simple wp" and an "extended wp". For the extended wp a link to additional fields is available. What those fields contain (name size etc) is defined in the ini file and could then be user configurable.
This would enable the SquiddoWP, WR_wp's etc

In Routes only summaries / averages / etc of all wp's in the route are calculated dynamically and/or stored.

To keep the link to the grib file is of little use, once the grib is used for the wr calculation the wr-wp's with the extended info attached is sufficient. When (e.g under way) another wr-run is done and option to adjust various parameters based on real vs grib data (e.g. +/- 1hrs, wind 110% etc) are already possible.

Yes, skipperearly, what you are saying makes sense to me.
Exactly what data from grib is needed? We should try defining the fields needed.

Another idea which would allow the user to quickly change the colors in the optimal routing to show a select parameter

not the data from the grib are of interest but the data to be associated to the wp - meaning the interpolated data from the grid plus some more:
I suggest the let the user decide but allow for TWA,TWS, AWA, AWS, STW, CTW, SOG,COG, CTS(next wp), Wave HGT, Wave Period, Swell HGT/Period, Pressure, etc
Ideally for each value the user can set intervals [] and associate different background color (on the detailed "spreadsheet") to see e.g. high winds/waves red low values white etc.
