OpenCNP 5.0.1 - Routes Printing (Mac)

Support request for Routes Printing (New to OpenCPN)
Hardware: MacBook Pro / Catalina 10.15.2
Screen capture & printout attached as reference.

I have able/disabled crew onboard and for voyage briefing/cross reference have used Route Prints with great success in the past.

Selection of Route, print options and output to PDF format - no problems.

Output data is printed in part, however, print layout + format is incorrect.

Please advise when I can change page option/layout.

2 reasons:
Catalina does not support 32bit software anymore. So often new printer drivers are needed. Apple does not distribute printer drivers anymore. They are available only from the printer manufacturer.


Second with version 5xx OpenCPN was done a lot of changes and not all of the old functions have been tested for all operating systems. Printing the route properties window is not the same as shown on the screen. There is a mismatch of columns.

The printing issue raised relates to print layout and not to an individual printer.

I have selected Print To PDF format, which generate a PDF file to be stored or printed later. I share these with the crew prior to or during a voyage which is why PDF format is convenient.

Understand this issue maybe low on outstanding support issues.

I found an additional option to "Export Routing Data to CSV", therefore, bypass pre-designed formats for printing. I have used similar options in my non-sailing life for IT solutions. (Everyone loves Excel apparently)

Anywhere on the Route Display for Waypoints, press Right click and select option "Copy All To Text", open Excel, Paste Special (Unicode) and data is imported as Comma Separated data.

A few modifications as to column layout and I can use such for the crew reports.

Printing with a Mac works a little bit different as with a Windows computer.
When you choose to save the print as pdf it is still the print data as it will go to the printer. When I do the same (saving print as pdf) I get a far better result, see attachment. So I suggest to update your printer driver.


For sure however the printing support of OpenCPN is rather poor. It has never been first priority to the developers.
