If you want to use it for navigation it seems to me you will need some form of GPS input. I bought the cheapest GPS puck I could find on ebay. That may not be the wisest course of action but it has worked fine for me for 3 years now. If you've already got some kind of handheld GPS you may be able to connect it to your computer.

Get a BU353 GPS from Amazon bu 353 - Google Search=

Here are chart links. Perhaps you will find something useful here. In the US we can dowload all 2273 NOAA charts for free. You may have to buy your raster or vector charts.

ENC - Fairway Information Services

Re: open cpn newbie help please

Almost All uk charts are copyright. Take a look atFree charts, tide tables and pilotage : from Visit My Harbour

as a good starting point.

There are cm93 charts out there but there are plenty of risks using such old info , never mind the viral risks downloading pirate-ted data. ( others will say the rocks dont move etc)

the enc link ib the previous post show how much advanced the dutch are compared to the uk, as both hydrographic offices are funded by the tax payer, but the uk tax payer pays again.
