Open CPN kind of a mess on Mojave

I am running (or trying to run) open CPN on a macbook air running mojave and it is a buggy mess. Lots and lots of crashes, directory issues etc.

Is open CPN more functional on a windows machine? Is there anything I can do on my mac to improve its performance?

First step is: You have to install it on your Mac.
The macOS version sadly has no installer and a lot of Mac users don't know how to install OpenCPN. They wrongly start it from the opened DMG file and so it crashes of course.

Re: Open CPN kind of a mess on Mojave

Hi Ben,

I've been running the [current version at the time...] of O-CPN for years on MacBook Pro [through several OS upgrades, currently Catalina, or 10.15.2] with never an issue. I integrate RADAR [via ethernet] and NMEA 2000 data [including GNSS- via ethernet or WiFi] as well.

Have you tried booting your MB Air in 'Safe Mode' to see if the issues persist? [i.e., rule out external apps and add-ons...]

I suspect OCPN isn't the issue, and hope you find resolution.

In case this is helpful.

Cheers! Bill

I have OpenCPN on a couple Linux machines and a Windows XP laptop and it works well on all of them FYI.

I concur. I ran it on Mojave’s for a year with no issues. It has some know issues on Catalina that are easy to over come - such as it doesn’t like dark mode. But I’ve been running it on Catalina for a few months now.

Another thing encountered when using Catalina:
Catalina does not run anymore 32bit software.
So when you still have old printer drivers printing does not work.
