Re: Open cpn

Which Android OpenCPN?
If you want something supported it should show as version 1.0.18
(not 4.1.xxx)

Re: Open cpn

I had the same problem with my old Motorola Xoom. There is a bug in the NMEA output of latitude in some Android versions.

An easy way to confirm if this is your problem is do what I did - install GPS NMEA and see what is being output.

Don't know that old home brewed beta version but to be sure you can move your charts before uninstall to for example ../"external SD card"/charts/ and than point to that folder in the official OpenCPN.

Did you run GPS NMEA or a similar app to see whether it could possibly work before getting the paid version?

When you run that app, you need to look at the raw NMEA output screen and check the $GPGLL and/or $GPGGA lines.

If you see:

$GPGLL,0000.0000S,........
and
$GPGGA,......,0000.0000S,....

regardless of your latitude, then you have the same Andriod bug as my tablet and you will NOT be able to OenCPN using the internal GPS.

Any Android app which uses the standard GPS API will still work fine, but any that rely on NMEA output from the GPS will not work.

Re: Open cpn

scuba...
Some simple debugging to start:

1. What is your device(phone) make/model/type?

2. Leaving aside OpenCPN for now, when using "GPS NMEA or a similar app", does it show your correct position on land (latitude/longitude?)
