oesenc plugin for Android

Hi, I am trying to install OpenCPN for Android on a Samsung Tab A 8' tablet. I have installed the OpenCPN free version from Maison Automatique, but the only oeSENC plugin available on the Play Store is the Dave Register version, which is not compatible with this free version of OpenCPN. Do I need to purchase the Dave Register version of OpenCPN or is there another oeSENC plugin version available elsewhere ? I'm prepared to buy the the Register OpenCPN, but having already paid $70 for a set of Australian charts which I can't use, I'm not anxious to spend more unless I'm sure I'll end up with a useable system. Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes you have to buy the "Dave Register" version. The very old "Maison Automatique" version has not been updated since 2015.

Re: oesenc plugin for Android

Thomas, thanks very much for clearing that up. I'll invest another $15 to check out the Dave Register version; after that, I'm off to Navionics ! As an aside, the ruggedised 10.1 inch version of the Samsung tablet is $1,000 in Australia, the same price as the (currently on offer) Raymarine Element 9S !

Re: oesenc plugin for Android

Tony,

there is a glitch with the oeSENC Android plug-in on some systems.
In case you get a [XML error 60] message, then you would need a patched version which is under testing right now.

As Thomas said, the beta version from 2015 never has been updated and does not know about external plug-ins for example.
The "official" app is at a comparable level with the actual desktop OpenCPN.

Re: oesenc plugin for Android

Hi, Hubert, I see there is a version of OpenCPN for Android, version 5.0.2, dated July 2019, on the OpenCPN.org website, together with an August 2019 version of the oeSENC plugin. Should I install these instead of the Dave Register versions ? Sorry to be lazy, but if there is a known stable configuration, it could save me some pain. Thanks for your help.

Re: oesenc plugin for Android

Tony,

Dave is the lead developer and the "father" of OpenCPN.
For the oeSENC plug-in you will need the version from the play-store he nurses.
The latest version is 5.0.8, dating from November.

For Android OCPN there exists as well a dedicated forum in case questions go beyond the scope of this forum...

Hubert

Btw.: the oeSENC set for Australia (called oeEVC for legal reasons) costs 35€ (=56,40AUD) at o-charts [bean counter mode off]

Re: oesenc plugin for Android

Hi, Hubert, I'll install the latest versions of the OpenCPN program and the oeSENC plugin and let you know how I get on. Are the programs available from the Play Store and the OpenCPN the same and are they both authored by Dave Register ? If so, I guess I should just check the version numbers and install the most recent. Thanks again for taking the time to help me out, I'm sure I'm not the first person to have difficulties with this. If there is a more appropriate forum for this discussion, perhaps you could let me know.

Re: oesenc plugin for Android

At the play-store you will find always the latest version.
Once installed, future updates will be notified and you can use them.

The other point with the app is that you can use it on as many Android devices as you like, when using the same account for the play-store.

oeSENC however has a limited number of installs - as required by the licensors.

Here we are to clarify doubts and further questions.
