Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

Hi.
Feedback.

Just updated draw and weatherrouting to the new versions on the architect thingie V4.2.

It does not venture in the Waddenzee anymore but still seem to ignore detect land and boundary sometimes.
First it went into South-east England.
Than I set up a boundary there to see if this could be a remedy, but still, see attached it ignores this.

Hope that helps to test.

I'm on win 10 with 4.2.

Cheerio Franziska

Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

Franziska...

for landfall detection Weather-routing (same as Watchdog) depends on the underlying GSHHS world coastline files. In case you don't have the hi-res version installed some nonsense will happen.

I had kept it for me. But my tests watchdog, with detailed GSHHS, the path leading boat ashore (by hand because I did not file to read VDR to test it, of course) were not satisfactory . I do not know what to think.

Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

Franziska,
I have just done a weather routing between the two points you have and got this. It went around all boundaries, although you will notice the boundary on SE England there are possibilities that go across the boundary, this is because the steps used straddle that part of the boundary. This is something to remember as there are a finite number of locations tested and those locations have to be inside a boundary for it to be found.

If you continue to get the issue where the boundary is not found can you provide me the grib file, lat an lon of the start and end points and any conditions you setup for the calculation.

Thanks
Jon

And this is how it looks when I tried (see attached picture). It seems to work for both area's that have to be avoided.

Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

Franziska,

High Resolution Background download found here.
Chart Sources | Official OpenCPN Homepage

Yes, the Time Interval matters because the checking for boundaries is determined by the weather_routing time interval. Make the time interval less if the boundary is missed. It takes more computing time however.

Looks Good NAV. Nice to know it is working for you.

Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

Hello Jongough,

W8.1 PC.

I just downloaded the latest version of OD from the thingie that seems to have been posted by Franziska.

First comment, bug:
I redid some of my previous tests:
North Up.
Creation of two EBL that turn with the boat. One located on the port side, red. The other located to starboard, green.
Creating a fixed direction EBL attached to the boat.

See first screenshot.
(For safety reasons, I saved these EBL in a GPX file to be able to repeat the experiment many times.)

VDR with the same file, I see:
- Both green and red EBL do not rotate.
- EBL starboard disappears
- A EBL appears to port with a huge length. The first test, it was red, the second test it was green.

See screenshot 2 and 3.

Second comment:
When I load a GPX acquirable which contains three EBL, EBL where the three are designed to be hung on the boat, three EBL does not spontaneously cling to the boat. Is this normal?

Attached is the GPX file with the 3 EBL. And you can use the VDR file That I attached to a previous post.

Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

Sorry guys, I did not 'git pull origin fixes' properly. I've redone it. Sorry for the problem. I hope this one is working.

Deleted other one and uploaded new to O Beta File Thingie.
(Give me one minute).

Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

Hi.I did not post files on thingie ;-) That comes from Jon and other software geniuses. Thanks to them.

Had a chance to try things with high res background map and 30min steps instead of 1hr.
Seems to work.
Still it's more a guideline as one would surely not tack along the coast of England as shown.
See attached screenshots.

One comment. In the sailgrib app they have an option to specify a maximum windspeed and minimum windspeed for the route.
If you are likely to encounter wind above, the routing tries to avoid it or suggests a later start. If you drop below a certain speed you can set a speed you would like to motor at (if at all).Might be a feature to consider for the routing plugin.

Thanks so far, have a lovely evening,

Franziska

Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

Hi,
If you are posting about a bug can you please include the patch number you found it in. You can find this in 'Options/Plug Ins/OCPN Draw/Preferences/About'. There are many changes still occurring as I and others find bugs and they are fixed and I want to be sure that the bug has not already been fixed in a later version.

Thanks
Jon
