Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

Hubert,
Dead Reckoning is just a way to guess where you may be in, say, an hours time based on your current course and speed. The original requesters for this facility have been very quite since I introduced this into OD, so I have no real idea if it is of any use or is just plain wrong.

I know that for proper DR you should also take into account tides and tidal changes as well as other factors such as wind shifts expected, etc. I also think there may be a need to edit the first pass DR that is plotted for you, but I would need some guidance on what and how. In my planning I normally do the DR in my head and then adjust from there, so I am not really a good case to ask about this capability.

I would love there to be a proper discussion on what DR means, what facilities there should be in OCPN/OD to help and how they should be used. It is quite possible for OD to put out a Route that OCPN could then use to instruct the autopilot, I just haven't done this yet (I might never if there is no real need). Now that the basics are in place we can extend the capability relatively easily.

One thing that could now occur is auto routing, i.e. provide a start point and an end point and let the system suggest various routes between the two. This would not be a trivial exercise, but I think we have OCPN and the plugins and the API to the point where this could be attempted. Volunteers?

what do you think?

Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

Hello Jongough, Hello RGleason,

It would require a plugin update the thingie. Indeed, there were several plugin patch that were not addressed in the latest version of the plugin that is in the thingie.

Thank by advance.

Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

Assuming attached picture is from the right and latest version of OD, I only have two small outstanding problems:
  • the word 'Path' is not present in the pot-file
  • the string 'EBL Point' is not present in the pot-file

Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

Plugin files in Opencpn file thingie are located in folders with a named associated with the earliest version that they will work in. Also the filenames normally have ov then the version. Please check this first before saying something does not work. Normally I always test it first, and if I don't, I specifically state I did not test or try it.

Version numbers are important in beta testing because changes are made to the plugin api as new communicating features are added, this the affects compatibility due to the changing opencpn.lib file!

Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

I now have Draw fully translated to Dutch (except 'Path' and 'EBL Point') , but not in CrowdIn (that pot-file wasn't up to date).

Should I make the po and mo files available so the Dutch translation can be transferred to CrowdIn?

Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

Nav,
There seems to be a problem when using languages other than english as the dialog does not seem to display correctly. I am trying to find out what is happening, but can only reproduce it in the installed version. When I try and debug I only get english and cannot get to french or dutch. So I am still working on it. The 'Path' label should not be there as I have 'hidden' it, but windows does not seem to obey the rules and seems to display the tab even if you cannot get to it. I don't know why.

Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

Hello Jongough,

I use a special version O411317 that Jean Pierre make for me with the version of Grib plugin. In this version I install the last version that I download fom thingie of your plugin O Draw. It run Ok.

2 See screen copy.

I create a boundary with 3 points. Then I place my mouse on one of these 3 points. Some time I have the first rollover, sometime the second.

Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

Jongough,

I place my mouse on the line of the boundary, and then, If right clic, then if i try to delete the boundary, it is delete immedialtely without ask me if I want really to delete this object. However, the available command is "Delete ..."

Is it normal ? I searched in preferences the check box that would require the plugin to ask me this question but it disappeared ... ???

Same problem with a boundary point but, in this case, the command is "Delete".

Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

Hello Jongough,

I create an EBL line. Then I place my mouse on the line and right clic, so context menu and I use "Pick a new start point". Then a second leg of the line is created, then right clic. So this end the creation. But the first leg desappear.

Sorry to bother you, but I do not know if this is normal. So ????

Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

Jongough,

1° As you see, here I create two DR. And the two DR are activate. But, impossible to change the DR which is used in the right.

It seem to me that this is a problem.

2° I unactivate the two DR. Normally, with a route, if we unactivate the route, then the window on the right is closed.

Is it your choice ???? If yes, why ? if no, bug ?

I don't observe this, and can replace the start point correctly.
