Ocharts failing to open

Installed Ocharts for the canadian west coast on my Macbook pro everything was working ok. Went out on a trip and OpenCPn did not open them when starting.
I had to go and delete the directory that the charts were in and reinstall the charts and it works.
Tonight i go to take a look at a future trip on my macbook and the charts have failed to open again.
Why is is doing this? I will wait until i get info back from folks before deleting the directory again and rebuilding it. Do you have to add the directory each time you open the software?

Very frustrating when you are out sailing and your charts disappear, does not make you feel safe with using this software if there is major bug like this.

What are the versions of
- macOS
- OpenCPN
- ocharts plug-in?
Make sure to use the latest ones for the latter two (5.6.2, 1.0.29)


Did you install the charts in the standard directory or in a different one?
macOS with single user or various ?
Can you check the OpenCPN log file concerning errors? Access via the "About" ("?") button of the tool bar.

It says the error is 1101

Can we see a screen shot with the error message?
"1101" is not one OpenCPN or the o-charts plug-in is generating.

That's the log.
We need that one attached as a file (rename it to .jpg if you like in order to comply with the rules of the forum).


Don't see the "1101" message at the log?

Attached as jpg. error 1101 is about half way down.

The "1101" error you see is relalted to translation files, not related to o-charts plugin.
To investigate further, we need to see the entire logfile, attached to a post here. A screen shot will not contain enough log entries to solve the question.

I got a copy in the log file format but the forum does not let me load it as an attachment.

Rename the log file as something like: "logfile.pdf".
That masquerade will allow upload to forum.

Is there a user called "Jimshomefolder" on your Mac? Are there several different user accounts? As which user do you start OpenCPN?


Question due to (and other similar entries):
"16:59:26.663 MESSAGE chart1.cpp:1920 PrivateDataDir is /Users/Jimshomefolder/Library/
Preferences/opencpn"

yes there is a folder called jims folder because that is me and I am the only user on this MacBook and my charts are kept in a folder called Charts.

We have seen something similar to this before, on Mac.
You presently have your charts in something like:



/Users/Jimshomefolder/Documents/Charts/....


There is sometimes something funny about the "Documents" folder on Mac.


Please try to manually move the charts to a new folder:
/Users/Jimshomefolder/Charts/....
Add this directory in Options->Charts->Chart files.

Rebuild chart database.
