o-charts "The site ahead contains harmful programs"

Apparently Google thinks the .pdf about S-63 / S-57 implementation is scary.

Someone might wanna fix that...

I was going to send the link to a company that sells ENCs, but told me they wouldn't work with OpenCPN.

I followed the link from the plugin page to here: o-charts

...and from there to here: http://o-charts.org/downloads/S-63_p...lained-0_4.pdf

Re: o-charts "The site ahead contains harmful programs"

Wannabe,

that's a known wrong positive for the Windows S-63 fingerprinter.
But we have no clue how to get rid of it - heuristics and as the Windows virus checkers will not accept messages about false positives if you don't buy their crap we just carry on.

A.: use a system with Linux or OSX to download the fingerprinter
B.: tell Google that they should not just copy messages of that type
C.: in the worst case we can mail you that executable

Out of couriosity: who tells you that they will not license charts/cells for a valid IHO S-63 UserPermit?

Admiralty does, AHS does, ChartWorld does....

Re: o-charts "The site ahead contains harmful programs"

Hey.

Its a .pdf not an executable, and I have it just fine.
I'm not worried about me - just letting the powers-that-be know so you can try and do something. I imagine that would be a pretty scary message for most.

Them: "The ENC’s that we can offer are part of the admiralty AVCS Product group and will not work on open CPN."

Me: "Seems strange that they wouldn't work with OpenCPN. They do support S-63 charts (S-57 vector charts)."

I'll go back to them and educated them (even though I dont know what i'm talking about)

There is a user in Spain that licensed Admiralty AVCS S-63 charts. We had him at home with the complete whole world DVD & 7 CD set in a nice card box and we installed his licensed cells on his PC. No problem.

So they shall try harder
Btw: in this moment it helps us more to license at ChartWorld. Prices are the same AFAIK.

And that about the pdf is new.. The file did not change in the last 10 months.

Re: o-charts "The site ahead contains harmful programs"

OK... so this is getting a little thread drifty here, but I can buy some ENCs from ChartWorld which helps 'us', and then I have to buy a userPermit right?

The user permit appears to be €15.13. Presumably this gives me the ability to 'use' paid charts as much as like on that machine?

I read the instructions

I just tried downloading the plugin, now i realise why you thought I was talking about an executable... same error message, and even worse, Chrome refused to download it!
Seems iexplorer isn't good-for-nothing after all.

Re: o-charts "The site ahead contains harmful programs"

Wannabe,

'us' is o-charts.org, the gateway from/for OpenCPN created to enable the use of S-63 chart material from OpenCPN.

An artificial spin-off or umbrella to comply with the requirements of the institutions that are supervising and maintaining the distribution of official charts. It's explained in the FAQ on the o-charts site and in the lenghty thread about the S-63 PI. Start from the beginning to get the information why o-charts.org exists.

The S-63 UserPermit as defined in the S-63 standard is your key to license charts from distributors.
The S-63 PI is the tool to use those under OCPN.
The cost of the UserPermit is 12.50€ (plus VAT if applicable).

Re: o-charts "The site ahead contains harmful programs"

Hi,

If you right click and choose "Save as" on the document links no error message appears.

It might be a good idea to state that on the
o-charts
document page.

Hope this is useful.

Re: o-charts "The site ahead contains harmful programs"

The first thing is to report a "fall positive" back to the program that alerts.

With the newly released versions of the plug-in the incriminated fingerprinter program does not exist anymore - the function are now integrated into the plug-in. So we have some choice that the nightmare of alerts will disappear.

But no guarantee - just look at the warnings some people are getting when downloading OCPN 4.2
