Norwegian Mapping Authority teams up with OpenCPN

The Norwegian Kartverket/Norwegian Mapping Authority, Hydrographic Service (NMA-HS) has published this morning an announcement that the complete portfolio of Norwegian vector charts is now available for OpenCPN.

These are more than 1100 single charts covering the Norwegian waters, including Svalbard.
Weekly updates are available.

The charts are distributed in the licensed oeSENC format for OpenCPN via o-charts.org

The chart provider list and the regions shall grow further in the future and the place to check availabilities is directly at o-charts.
No need here to double up the documentation with the issue to keep it in sync.

Just a quick question.

What about O-senc charts if you are running Xinutoo/opencpn from a USB drive - will I be able to move the USB drive to a different computer and use the O-senc charts or will the charts be tied to the computer used when installing the o-senc charts - ot will they be tied ti the USB drive or both ??

a) The oeSENC chart sets you are using have to be present on the PC after installation for using them. So don't install from an USB stick or a CD with the unzipped set and unplug it later.

b) the sets are not portable. They are linked to the system (combination HW and SW) they have been licensed for. See the FAQs at o-charts as well for this topic.

c) it would be possible to make a hardware dongled USB stick as licensed chart source, but this requires to send those physically in the world. An option not on the table right now. VisitMyHarbor does this for example, requiring a special driver for the stick.

d) all this is valid for the S-63 plug-in as well.
