Conachair, just before I opened your reply I found the tab. Thanks for coming back explicitly with the screen
shot. First I found that the default network mode was for RPi3+ but I have the 3B. I changed it but that didn't work
. Then I thought if I don't have an extra dongle I can't be both a client and an AP. So I changed the network mode to just a client. Now that works. I have a connection and I'm ready to move on to the next problem.
But I'm curious, I looked at Jim321's link and see this statement:
"On Raspberry Pi 3 you can use the built-in WIFI device as AP and client. No USB wlan stick is needed!"
So I believe I shouldn't need another dongle but that didn't work. I'll read some more.
