No Dual screen with GL on

We are unable to use the dual canvas layout with opengl turned on. Our cf30 toughbook with windows 7 was able to use dual screen with gl on using the downloaded xp mode from microsoft but was very slow to load charts and was a sloppy fix, but did prove the graphics and drivers on the laptop can do it. we have tried all the settings in opencpn.ini but absolutely nothing worked, we would greatly appreciate any advice as have run out of options at our end, but do think something in opencpn is bringing up the "opencpn.exe has stopped working" when dual canvas is selected with gl on

Just how old is that? What graphics card and software version?

Please attach opencpn.ini and opencpn.log here.
Also you can run a test to see what level of opengl your graphics card supports.
GLview OpenGL Extensions Viewer 6 | realtech VR | realtech VR
Run it and advise what level it supports.

I think you are going to have to leave GL off if you want dual screen.

Re: No Dual screen with GL on

You did not run glview. If you want to learn more, install and run that.

I am sure you saw this however:

Expedition:

"2:32:31 PM: OpenGL-> Detected Windows Intel Mobile renderer, disabling Frame Buffer Objects "

This line means that your system is using the generic Windows graphics driver for the GL support. Frame Buffer Objects are definitely required for dual screen support.

The solution is to search online for a chipset -specific OpenGL driver set for the particular device, and install it.

Thanks
Dave

Re: No Dual screen with GL on

Or isn't there an opengl software that works independent of chipset, but is slower?

Rick...
Not applicable to dual screen configuration.
Dual screen requires real OpenGL hardware, and functional Frame Buffer Objects.

Re: No Dual screen with GL on

Thanks again for all your time with this, the problem is definitely with the display adapter Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset. With it disabled in device manager, dual canvas works fine but with terrible screen resolution. Have tried OpenGL and driver updates nothing works. We have a backup CF-29 running XP with all the same programs and everything works perfectly so have definitely narrowed down the problem to the display adapter on this laptop. All above my pay grade now unfortunately so looks like off to the computer shop somewhere. But any ideas would be appreciated
