The instructions say just connect it to the nmea backbone

Have you actually installed a
NMEA 2000 backbone ? You know, a couple of lengths of
NMEA 2000 cable, 120 ohm terminators at each end and a few T-pieces with drop
cables, one connected to your
engine gateway, one connected to your magical gateway/multiplexer and another connected via a
NMEA 2000
power cable to 12v DC supply?
If you've done that, you will need to find out why your gateway/multiplexer is not receiving nor converting NMEA 2000
engine data. It would be kind of helpful if you told us what gateway/multiplexer you are using.

Is there any possibility that you will support minimal engine data within the OpenCPN dashboard for ANDROID plugin, even if the transcoded 2k data is not in the format you identified?

To create an Android build of the Engine Dashboard is not beyond the realm of possibilities. However I have no idea whether it is something that is intrinsically performed by the CI build process, or whether it needs additional UI
work (scaling, gestures etc.). If the latter, then definitely not. Also I would not contemplate supporting anything other than NMEA 183 v4.11 standard
transducer names.
