Question New OwnShip Icon Capability

Has anyone played around with this yet? If so does your icon orient in the direction of travel or is it fixed? Does it require your icon to be in a north up orientation? Inquiring minds want to know.

I played around a bit with this option today, an found no problems.
I took an icon, Aori.png , from an earlier discussion and converted it to "ownship.xpm" with Gimp. The picture is created north up, and orients itself with changing courses. I'm attaching a dump where a skewed chart is shown course up.

The challenge now, is to find some nice ownship Icons. When the present icon was introduced there was an intense discussion, now it seems like the heat is gone....

Can I have one with a couple of nude chics sunbaking on the foredeck?

Oh dear....
It must be really boring in the Canaries!

However, considering the general navigational safety aspects, the Board of Directors for the OpenCPN Foundation in it's Memo BS002, has granted this request, provided that you use paper charts exclusively for the rest of your nautical career.

no wonder as now everbody could use his own icon.

How about an image gallery for a collection of own ship icons on opencpn.org/de (with the xpm files for download)?

Well I tried to make an icon using GIMP. Looks great except, that when it's tracking on a raster chart, the icon is surrounded by a swarm of "bees". It doesn't happen until it goes live, and tracks. It will do it as well in a vector chart when not connected to GPS. But it is clear in a raster chart until it connects with GPS. I guess I'm "graphicly challenged". I tried modifying an existing icon with transparency , but the same problem. Any graphics guys with an answer???

Skua...

Post your icon here, and I'll have a look at it.

Thanks

Yes,I've got that swarm too.I've tried gimp,Greenfish Icon Editor. Both work fine for waypoint icons and as static "ownship".
These two apps write the file differently when viewed as text.
