Need Help Installing on Raspberry Pi

I am trying to install OpenCPN on a raspberry pi and not having much success.
I have been trying to set up a PPA that will allow me to download the program and my basic understanding of linux is limited to copying lines in the help file and pasting them in a terminal window.
Can some patient person walk me through the process of setting it up and installing it?
I have a RPi 3B with 32gig SDI so memory should not be an issue.

Re: Need Help Installing on Raspberry Pi

If Linux is not your forte, stick with the prefab, well documented installation packages like OpenPlotter or spin up Raspian and then install OCPN. You'll save yourself a lot of grief.

Go with OpenPlotter, it's got Raspian built in and all the hard work has been done for you.

Re: Need Help Installing on Raspberry Pi

Thanks for the tip on OpenPlotter. I will try it but I am still looking at how to just get the binaries that will install OpenCPN on a raspberry Pi.
Anyone?

Re: Need Help Installing on Raspberry Pi

The instructions on the wiki for using apt should work...

I am not sure how it got compiled as for raspberry pi, it should use regular opengl, where virtually all the other arm boards need opengles. This would mean different binaries for the same architecture which I don't think is handled correctly.

Maybe opengles works too with the vc4 driver, I didn't bother to try that yet, it might actually be better for raster charts because of etc1 compression.
