Re: ncdf plugin for reading NetCDF tidal currents

Mike, when I copy my version of ncdf.dll and yours over to my Laptop and past into both 4.2 and 4.2.1 these plugins don't seem to appear. I expect there is a .dll that I am missing. I wonder what it is.

opencpn.log
8:34:51 PM: Error: Failed to load shared library 'C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenCPN\plugins\ncdf_pi.dll' (error 126: the specified module could not be found.)
8:45:49 PM: PlugInManager: Cannot load library: C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenCPN\plugins\ncdf_pi.dll
===
10:11:21 AM: PlugInManager: Loading PlugIn: C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenCPN 4.2.1\plugins\ncdf-rick2_pi.dll
10:11:21 AM: Error: Failed to load shared library 'C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenCPN 4.2.1\plugins\ncdf-rick2_pi.dll' (error 126: the specified module could not be found.)
10:11:21 AM: PlugInManager: Cannot load library: C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenCPN 4.2.1\plugins\ncdf-rick2_pi.dll

I am going to have to compare my opencpn directories with the other machine to find out what is missing.

Differences
freexl.dll and geos_c.dll but those are for survey. libusb-1.0 but that is for rtlsdr_pi I believe....
and a few others. Oh curllib.dll

I was going to try this big SHOM file.. I guess I'll have to do it on the other machine.

Re: ncdf plugin for reading NetCDF tidal currents

Rick,

Is netCDF 4.4.0 installed on both your other machines?

Re: ncdf plugin for reading NetCDF tidal currents

Yes, Mike NetCDF4.4.0 is now installed on both machines, thanks.
And NCDF files work on both now! Anything you want me to check?

Re: ncdf plugin for reading NetCDF tidal currents

ncdf_pi now compiles and runs on linux. Instructions on the github readme.

Priority now is work on a standalone client program to simplify the download of the Copernicus nc files.

It also seems that we are dependent Copernicus server. The "Minimal" software works better now than a few weeks. Yet it is the same software.

Re: ncdf plugin for reading NetCDF tidal currents

Minimal is now motu_builder!

motu_builder.exe is a small Windows program to simplify the download of nc files from Copernicus. Place the .exe in your main OpenCPN program folder. It needs the wxWidgets files located there. A config.ini file is created in this folder on first running the program. This retains the settings from a previous run of motu_builder.

You will need to have installed Python 2.7 and downloaded the motu_client script. The Copernicus website has links for these items.

This motu_builder program can be found on GitHub in the 'releases' section (V0.3).

The areas which ncdf_pi uses are coded into motu_builder, to automatically fill in lats/lons.

When the program is closed (x) or 'File/Exit' is used the settings are retained.

Re: ncdf plugin for reading NetCDF tidal currents

motu is a similar program for Linux. Available as motu.pdf in the V0.3 releases section of GitHub.

Remove the .pdf extension and place in any suitable folder where you can find it for execution. I have not been able to make an automatic download work. Instead, copy the script you have made to Clipboard and paste into Terminal. Press 'Enter' and the Python script will then run.

You will need to have Python 2.7 on your system and have installed the motu_client script as in my previous post.

Hello Mike,

First test "motu bilder" made. It works as minimal. In fact, I have not seen a difference in terms of the version under Windows.

I made yesterday a lot of tests with minimal. I came to realize that the smallest area we can upload must have at least 4.9 degrees in longitude and 1.9 degrees in latitude. Am I wrong?

Best regards. Gilletarom.

Re: ncdf plugin for reading NetCDF tidal currents

Mike,

Tried to build ncdf again, in various ways. No success but close still.
Just 4 errors..... then tried with VC++ and got 70 errors.

See attached please. Perhaps you can tell me where the three missing wx/wx......h files are? --Are you missing them from src or some include directory?

Best
Rick

Re: ncdf plugin for reading NetCDF tidal currents

Rick,

Under VS2013 I had the same errors with 'Debug'. Ended up working with 'Release' only.

Edited some notes you made previously (remove .doc).

Hope this helps.

Re: ncdf plugin for reading NetCDF tidal currents

Mike, followed your doc. Made a few clarifications to the doc, did Properties changes for both Debug and Release. No problems with Properties for either.

When tried to build Debug and Release, got the same error.
could not find glu.lib

Re: ncdf plugin for reading NetCDF tidal currents

No luck Mike. Tried a number of things here as you will see. Getting the linker lists is a pain, you can't just copy and paste all of them, but I did it this time

Now it can't seem to find netcdf.h or ncdf.h but they exist, and I believe the paths are all set up...

I've looked back at my previous setup and found this was needed
Linker/Input

"C:\Program Files (x86)\netCDF 4.4.0\lib\netcdf.lib"

I don't have time to try that but it might be needed.
