Missing tracks

We normally record all our tracks but this year about two weeks worth are missing. Presumably we turned tracking off accidentally sometime.

Q1: Is it possible to lock tracking on so it can’t be accidentally turned off?

Q2: I have a hazy idea that the tracks are also recorded in a log file somewhere regardless of the tracking setting, is there any truth in this?
