Missing data from Open CPN Maps

Hi,
I have now twice on 2 separate laptops installed Open CPN as per the instructions, I have downloaded World Base Map as I am based in Australia, when the maps load I can not get the maps to display any names, numbers or symbols, I have gone through the instructions several times to see if I have not ticked something.
I am very frustrated now and would appreciate any assistance.

Why do you mean by world base map?

I Suppose that you are using the Windows version ?

Hi there, thank you for responding, I have taken three screen shots.

1 is the maps that I have downloaded which is the world base map
2 is the settings page
3 is the blank map with no symbols or names

and yes I have three windows laptops, one works well and two have this issue.

The Base Map just shows outlines, there are no other objects in it.
In different resolutions depending on the base maps used. In all cases just showing the land masses.

You will need some other charts for your region for sailing.

For Australia you get quite a complete coverage with actual charts either through the AHS S-63 sets or the o-charts.org oeEVC set, that contains all the AHS maps including PNG and SO.
These charts need to be licensed.

There is a chapter in the OpenCPN manual dedicated to maps and map sources for OpenCPN. You find it at the "?" help button of the toolbar.

Try clicking the symbol with the A+ on the toolbar. This toggles the text on and off. If that does not work there is no text to see.
