Map source

I was very kindly given a set of charts from 2011. I'm sure they'll be fine as this is a backup chart system for me. But is there a more up-to-date set of charts that's widely available?

Thanks

Charts for where?

Open-charts (o-charts) for OpenCPN has very reasonably priced fully updated/updatable charts for many world regions
https://o-charts.org/index.html

OpenCPN has a plugin for o-charts.

Yes, o-charts are very reasonable and kept up to date, I guess the OP has CM93-2 charts and I have compared them with o-charts. Curiously, on the French coast the features and positions of depth figures match exactly; apart of course where there have been updates ...

I guess the french coast is still at the same place today as in 2011...

That's true enough, but the point I was making is the charts are more or less identical in every respect. Spot depths have identical values and are in exactly the same places. Obviously both chart sets use the same base data.

Re: Map source

I thought that was the same point CarCode was making: the older charts show the same data as the newer ones. Usually the updates involve relocation of aids to navigation. Sometimes storms shift the bottom contours and occasionally newer charts reflect those changes. Many areas have not been surveyed for a long time, though, so new charts are still reporting old bottom contours.

Re: Map source

I was comparing o-charts with CM93-2 from very different sources.

Re: Map source

One question regarding the O-charts. Does anyone know why they are not available for the Portuguese coast?
What are low cost alternatives other than CM-93?

Secondly is there a Harmonix.Idx file which covers Portugal?

Re: Map source

A file with tidal information which can be read by OpenCPN and others as well as by the current Plug-in of OpenCPN.

We are talking since the beginning ( > 3 years now) with PT. Nice people, but up to now no way to license vector charts. It would be possible to get the raster versions, but from workflow and requirements not an option today.
But, but, but.. There is another option showing up and we hope to get this running. Will not be "every body happy" but shall bring PT vector to the portfolio.
Please stand-by..

Re: Map source

Thanks for that.
We'll cast off in spring 2022, so stand by is possible for us.
I just came across this because I looked at your site and noticed the blank spot.
Lady Rover is at the French Atlantic coast this year and we have enough charts for that.
