Lost tracks and waypoints

Suddenly all tracks and waypoints are gone! Yes I have some backed up but not the last few months.....can I find the missing ones lurking somewhere??

Yes

OpenCPN keeps tracks routes and waypoints in a file named "navobj.xml". Each time It starts, it makes a backup of "navobj.xml" and keeps the last 5 backups. They are named "navobj.xml.1" thru "navobj.xml.5

If you ran O 5 times since you lost your data, it is gone for good. So make a backup of those files before trying anything.

You will find those files here:

Windows: C:\ProgramData\opencpn\
Linux: /home/user/.opencpn/

Thank you- I found those but how do I get .xml files into OCPN?

You don't, just replace the "broken" navobj.xml with the backup of your liking.
Or you can import any of them as GPX, it is what they are.
Edit: And make sure that you are replacing navobj.xml while OpenCPN is NOT running
