No, wrong.
You could use plug-ins with the beta versions of 2.4.x! But due to a change in the plug-in API in the latest beta 2.4.506 all already published plug-ins have to be re-compiled first. Otherwise they will crash OpenCPN at the program start.

AFAIK all (Windows) plug-ins have now been updated. So you can use them with the latest beta 2.4.506 - and only with this version (and hopefully with future ones).

I hope things are clearer now?

Sorry,Ray-These newer Plugins are at the leading edge of things...these you want are pretty new and are being written (I gather) in anticipation of a NEW STABLE version of OpenCPN...so it's a little bit longer to wait unless you can fix the crash you have with the beta.Go to the beta thread and have a careful look.You might even have something in your crash that's useful and need-know..

Re: Logbook Plugin

Hey SailorF54,
If yours is still going how does it look in Excel mine puts all the data (seperarted by semi colons) in the 'A' column. I have formatted the data received into seperate columns but the next lot of data goes into the 'A' column again

I just downloaded the latest version from opencpn.org but it still only offers CSV.

Thanks,

Re: Logbook Plugin

Gilletarom ...

looks more like the WMM plugin causes the trouble than the logbook plugin. I have used both, my self compiled dll file and the one downloaded from the ocpn.org page -> no crash or other problems at all.

I have all de-installed. And I reinstalled 240-506.

First, I have a problem with the tab "Plugins" from the toolbox.

1 ° There is no slider to the right and I can not validate the WMM because the button is hidden. Even in 1024 X 768 because then it is impossible to expand the toolbox down.

2 ° I downloaded again the dll plugin Logbook. Each time, it appears that the version 1.

But there is no crash.... !

3° I put out BSB4 dll and downloader dll
I run OpenCPN and then I can validate WMM without crash.

4° I run GE plugin without problem
5° I run VDR to replay a file but it do not run correctly but without crash. And then it is impossible to shutdown it.

Sorry, Sheer2Magic, I skipped your message.
I use LibreOffice 3.3.2 (being a miser and not a great fan of Microsoft..)

When I open the .cvs file, it aks for the format (semicolon in our case) and alphabet (latin) (Screenshot 1)
It then opens fine (Screenshot 2)

I finally got around to using this and I like it. Nice job.

I had no trouble understanding Date, Lat, Lon, COG, SOG, Depth, and Temp, but what do the others stand for?

My version of Excel opens the file with everything in one column. It doesn't prompt me to specify a separator charactor, it assumes the separator is a comma. It opens fine with Notepad (as a text file) or OpenOffice (as a spreadsheet). I'm curious, though, why you used a semi-colon instead of a comma as your separator. I didn't see any commas in the data.

It would be nice if the preferences dialog specified the units for the interval: "Interval (minutes):" for example.

A 1-minute interval results in a lot of data that probably isn't important most of the time. But a 60-minute interval might miss course and speed changes. Could you force it to write a record any time course over ground changed by more than 5 degrees or speed over ground changed by more than 10% and the interval had not yet expired?

That would leave the program's operation unchanged when the interval is short but capture dead reckoning information when long intervals are set.

Re: Logbook Plugin

HDM=Heading (magnetic)
HDT=Heading (true)
STW=Speed through water
AWA=Apparent wind angle
AWS=Apparent wind speed
TWA=True wind angle
TWS=True wind speed

Excel should ask you for the field separator. If not, try to open Excel, then File > Open. Maybe try to use Import. I don't remember how Excel behave.
CSV can be separated by coma, semi-colon, tabs or any other char. I did chose semi-colon for no specific reason. I like it, that's all ;-)

Re: Logbook Plugin

Thanks.

What about the idea of writing a record when course or speed changes between intervals? Is that possible?

New beta released!

Hi all,

Here's a new release. Warning, it's a beta and will probably change following you comments.

What's new?
- XML logbook format (that may change, don't rely on it yet ; but comments welcome)
- User defined note with instant saving option

Source available at usual place:
https://github.com/OpenCPN/OpenCPN/tree/Logbook

dll built for Windows available here:
http://opencpn.org/drupal/sites/defa...ok-beta_pi.dll

Re: Logbook Plugin

I like the user defined note. It seems to work fine with CSV format, but when I tried to use XML format it crashed OpenCPN. The output format defaults to XML every time. Can you make it default to the last setting? If I want to stay with CSV format I have to reselect that every time I change the interval
