To participate actively in the updating of the French help, I see that OpenCPN becomes increasingly complicated.
Please, keep it simple.

Re: Logbook Plugin
Helo,
By discovering this plugin this morning and seeing the contents of the cvs, I dreamed of a tool that would transform the data into another file readable by a tool like NavMonPc and allowing, by reading 10 or 100 times faster relive the nav.
As for making my logbook ... with comments and pictures included .. it may be too high an expectation. And then he will be able to display it with a nice layout ...
This is starting to do a lot of work for the developer.

Re: Logbook Plugin
... This is the other plugin I'm working on: it's named VDR or Voyage Data Recorder.
The purpose is to record all NMEA stream to a file and be able to replay it later. I'm still missing the replay part but I'm making progress.
Stay tuned!
But let keep this thread for the logbook plugin. I'm very interested with Pavel & Gerard ideas. Please make suggestion about which fields should be available for user input.

Re: Logbook Plugin
Well, for me it's pretty easy - I don't need anything more than I record in the paper sheets: cloud cover, wind direction and strength, sail plan/engine, watch (can be actually reconstructed from the watch schedule later), sometimes a text remark. What's the most annoying especially after a couple of days without wind on a racer with a very small tank is counting the right time to dig out the next canister to refill

Re: Logbook Plugin
Hi all,
I've pushed this patch to GitHub:
https://github.com/OpenCPN/OpenCPN/tree/Logbook
It'll be easier for everyone to follow develoment there.
I'll try to make a v0.2 in a few days to add user fields as described here.
Thanks,
Jean-Eudes
PS: We are now granted access to https://github.com/OpenCPN/ I hope others will follow pushing their branches there

This could be a toolbar Icon. Click the tool bar icon and a window pops up to add name & comment (two fields). Since the file is closed between fixes, when you end the input it prints a fix, no matter what the time. The first field (Name) is kept in memory, the second field (Comment) is flushed so it doesn't repeat every timed fix. The first field (Name) is also present when you click the icon for entry, you can change it or keep it as you want. This way you can have a position fix automatically as now, and a change of name at every watch change. Comments can be added whenever you need.
Comments should be just a text box, limited to 255 characters. Bigger notes should be carried on paper. If you go about adding fields for wind speed/direction, wave height, etc. you will make it too complicated and people won't use these functions. Well, maybe you could add wind speed/direction, sea state, temp, other FACTS (hopefully added automatically if available), but not instructions to the next watch.
Any data not added automatically should be flushed between entries so it is known to be entered manually.
Also, if you have HF radio e-mail you could automatically send this data shore side every X-minutes if you want. This doesn't even need to be part of Open CPN, it can be a widget.

Re: Logbook Plugin
It would be nice to have a icon to press that opens a dialog that shows a table with all information linked to date, time, pos...
As of now you need to check the file...
Also a possibillity to add comments to the logbook...

I should not post this early in the morning... Was looking at ones registry date
As a suggestoin, the information the logbook PcNavMon can show?
I'd like to try the plugin, however since I'm not a developer, a compiled version would be great

Re: Logbook Plugin
For Windows I posted it in http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...tml#post659356 - just download the attached file, change the extension to .dll and place it to the plugins folder in your installation.
If you are on Linux, there is no compiled version now. Will do it once I have a reason to boot the Ubuntu virtual machine, if SethDart is not faster publishing it himself.

Re: Logbook Plugin
Hard to say, you could... Some more info is needed to help you. The only prerequisite you could be missing is using the 2.4 beta version of OpenCPN, the plugin does not work with the older plugin interface.
You can find some clue what's wrong in the log file.

Re: Logbook Plugin
Then you are not. To try this and most of the other new plugins you have to use the beta version 2.4.324 or newer when it gets available
