Question Location of route data

Hi,

I am planning a set-up of two OCPN systems on my boat. One at the nav station and one at the helm.

Both are use Asuz Beebox PCs with Windows 10 and both use OCPN V5.2.4

I would like to create routes at the nav station and then copy them to the helm.

I can do this with the route manger export and import functions.

But since the PCs are networked; it would be nice to have a batch file which will simply copy the relevant file(s) from the nav station PC to the helm PC.

I thought this would be easy to test, but I can't locate the route file(s).

I'd be grateful if someone would enlighten me as to their usual location on Windows 10 64-bit Home.

Thanks,

John

Re: Location of route data

The file navobj.xml contains route and trackdata. It is located in the same directory as opencpn.ini.
On W10 usually c:\programdata\opencpn\

Re: Location of route data

Since both computers are networked would it work to simply point the helm OpenCPN to the route file in the nav station OpenCPN? Why copy the files from one computer to the other when you can simply read them directly?

navobj.xml is read in and held in memory(i think..), and written to file on program exit.
The navobj.xml.1-5 is backups.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I want the helm to continue to work it the nav station goes down and vice-versa.

Also the routes embedded among a lot of other data; I only want to copy the routes.

I haven't looked into alternative locations for the data files.

Thanks Sam,

I could write some software to extract the routes from one file and overwrite the routes in the destination.

But I've discovered that the last used import and export folders are retained between system boots. So the only advantage would be to do this from the nav station only. That's not a big enough advantage to make the effort worthwhile.

I appreciate your quick reply which enabled me to investigate this.
