Is there an option to configure "Chart Quilting" ?

Hello,

I generated several sets of KAP-files for different zoom levels for the same region (scale and area of the KAPs differs from zoom level to zoom level). Within these sets the scale for the KAP files differs a little bit (e.g. KAP1 1:115848 and KAP2 1:115161). Now I would expect that OpenCPN will show the KAPs with nearly the same scale at a certain zoom level, but on the screen appears a mixture of zoom levels (scale 1:115 and scale 1:457) and I have to zoom in and out to get it right. Can I influence that behavior? Perhaps there is a parameter in the configuration file?

Martin...

A couple of screen shots would help us understand your setup a bit better.

Thanks

Re: Is there an option to configure "Chart Quilting" ?

Dave,

Find attached 3 hardcopies. The first one shows the situation. The highlighted KAP has a scale of 1:115. Directly above the KAP has a scale of 1:45 (2. hardcopy) and the correct KAP with a scale of 1:15 is not shown (3. hardcopy).

Thanks for your help
Martin

OK, I see.

Try Options->Display->Advanced->Chart Zoom/Scale->Raster slider.

Increase the slider to 2 or 3, and see what effect this has.

Let us know

I think I have a patch for that. the issue is :

if the reference chart scale is 1:115848 then the 1:115161 is not displayed, I rounded scales to 1/100 but a proper patch should use scale magnitude.

Yep, I see that point. I had not seen homemade charts with "nearly identical but not quite equal" scales.

Dave,

I tried the slider for both directions. There's an effect, but the basic problem remains the same.

Re: Is there an option to configure "Chart Quilting" ?

Dave and did-g,

I used the tool img2kap in a batch procedure and that seems to be the reason for "nearly identical but not quite equal" scales. But I don't understand the reason for choosing the KAP with a scale of 1:457... instead of choosing the KAP with a scale of 1:115... . The difference is bigger.

The pilot charts are ordered this way, with scale ranging from 1:10 000 001 to 1:10 000 012

Will you say again your "basic problem", now that we are all up to speed?

Thanks

Sorry Dave,

my "basic problem" is misleading!

Hi,
The difference isn't used, only scales order matter.

It has to choose a chart, more or less the chart covering the screen center with the closest scale to the current zoom (the so called reference chart) then it displays all charts covering the screen with a scale smaller than this reference chart.
In your case it's likely the selected reference chart is the 1:115848 thus it doesn't display the 1:115116

It works well with official charts, not so with these home brewed charts.

Sure they are, but you neither can't nor need to quilt pilot charts.
They all cover exactly the same area.

as in your comment:

OCPN 4.6 seems to be doing what it was designed to do. So we want to know what you see as a problem, or what you would like to see improved.

Thanks

Re: Is there an option to configure "Chart Quilting" ?

Dave,

If I move the slider e.g. from 0 (Screenshot 41) to 2 (Screenshot 44) the situation is the same only displaying the KAPs at other scales.
