Installing plugins offline

I was just preparing a disk to take to the boat with new o-charts updates, and thought I should take an update for OpenCPN too.

The computer on my boat is hardwired in, and offline (always has been offline, and I'd like to keep it that way). I have worked out how to install OpenCPN and o-charts offline, but the plugins all seem to say "use the built in plugin manager to install". That's not going to work with an offline installation, so I either have to stay with an outdated version, or go without plugins ... but isn't the o-charts plugin kinda fundamental?

Is there a way to install the latest version with plugins offline?

Re: Installing plugins offline

You can find all plugins to download online. Only 'problem' is the are all on the same placd and mixe, alfa, beta and production. And that for all OS versions
You can find them here: https://cloudsmith.io/~opencpn/repos/?page=1
Download the "tar" file and import on the Options->plugins page.

Re: Installing plugins offline

Theoretically yes.
What you need is a file called "Tarball" for each plugin in question.
That file can be used by the "Import" function in plugin manager. (You need to edit your opencpn config file as advised if you click that button)
So, how do you get a tarball?

1. If you have a PC at home where you have updated e.g. the o-charts plugin the tarball used for that is on my Windows located at:
Code:
C:\ProgramData\opencpn\plugins\cache\tarballs
You can copy the file you need to a stick and import it on the boat's PC. ("o-charts-2.0.25.0_msvc-wx32-10-win32.tar.gz")

2. All tarballs used by the plugin manager are present at "Cloudsmith"
For o-charts you can find it here.
For Windows you need a file called "o-charts-2.0.25.0-msvc-wx32-10-tarball" use the download button to the right for that file.
For other OS you need to cache the correct tarball to download. You may need some system knowledge to select the correct file.
For other plugins you can go back and find it. Be sure to always use the "Production" version of each plugin.

Good luck

Re: Installing plugins offline

Thanks Hakan ... I do have a PC at home with a parallel ocpn install ... I'll seek out the tarball files there.

I knew there had to be a way ... I just wasn't finding it on the plugin page.

Re: Installing plugins offline

But for download O-charts you'll need an Internet connection to registry your computer or
...
to have a USB key, I guess that from O-Charts shop will tell you how to do it without connection.
in such case with the USB dongle, you can have multiple installation and O-charts will run where you have the dongle inserted, so at home using the dongle you can download the charts needed and make a USB stick back up carrying it to your boat and copy then in the proper folder saying to OCPN where are they stored with the USB dongle active in your onboard PC.

but the best should be in contact with O-charts web: https://o-charts.org/

Re: Installing plugins offline

I have two USB dongles ... one at home, and one on board. Registering the charts for an offline install is easy enough.

https://cloudsmith.io/~opencpn/repos/

Re: Installing plugins offline

There is another place to download tarballs directly, provided by Alec Leamas. The interface is a little unclear and slow at first, but it works fine.

I wish this were improved and linked to from the OpenCPN website.
