Installing OpenCPN on Mac

I just switched form PC to Mac (snow leopard) and I have been trying to install opencpn for Osx. I get a zipped file opecpn 2-1.5.0 source-tar. Then what ? When i get all the files from the downloads it has no installer, no exe, it ends up in my finder (documents) Not a clue how to get it in the applications!
Please help!

Re: Installing OpenCPN on mac

No exe to install a program on the mac.

Once unzipped, simply move or copy the files to the applications folder. Most newer apps will open a window with the program icon and the applications icon present. If so, simply dragging the program icon to the applications icon will put files in the proper place.

Then go there to run the program via double click. Or set up an icon on the dock to run the program from there.

edit,... just took a look. I think you are after a .dmg file, not a .tar.

Download OpenCPN 2.5.0 for IntelMac.

When opened it simple shows a OpenCPN icon. This should be then transferred to the applications folder. Open the folder window and drag n drop works fine.

Re: Installing OpenCPN on mac

Did it . However what I get in application is a list of files: data, install (text), plugins, etc, No icon and no way to see which is the one which controling the program. I am not a computer wizard as you can guess!

Re: Installing OpenCPN on mac

I think the .dmg file will work for you. Maybe delete the first effort and try again with this file.

I just downloaded it to my mid2011 MacBook Air which came with snow leopard installed.

The file contained a single icon for OpenCPN that I drug to the apps folder.
It worked fine, though I didn't install any charts or mess about in it.

I think you are using an older download possibly.

Your're looking for a file called OpenCPN_2.5.0.dmg
