InSeego MiFi as GPS data source.

Hello,

I'm trying to use an Inseego MiFi 8000 as a GPS data source. I have it set as Type Network, Protocol TCP, Network Address is my.mifi. The local LAN address returns the same results. The port is 11010 per the InSeego instructions.

It only works sporadically. A sample from the NMEA Debug window follows:

<GREEN>20:50:56 (TCP:my.mifi:11010) $GPGSV,3,1,12,01,26,059,31,06,03,161,15,13,37,224, 36,14,57,068,32*7B<0x0D><0x0A>
<GREEN>20:50:56 (TCP:my.mifi:11010) $GPGSV,3,2,12,15,30,261,34,17,74,123,36,19,55,188, 28,21,13,035,33*7A<0x0D><0x0A>
<GREEN>20:50:57 (TCP:my.mifi:11010) $GPGSV,3,1,12,01,26,059,31,06,03,161,12,13,37,224, 34,14,57,068,32*7E<0x0D><0x0A>
<GREEN>20:50:57 (TCP:my.mifi:11010) $GPGSV,3,2,12,15,30,261,30,17,74,123,37,19,55,188, 27,21,13,035,32*71<0x0D><0x0A>
<GREEN>20:50:58 (TCP:my.mifi:11010) $GPGSV,3,1,12,01,26,059,29,06,03,161,12,13,37,224, 34,14,57,068,34*71<0x0D><0x0A>
<GREEN>20:50:58 (TCP:my.mifi:11010) $GPGSV,3,2,12,15,30,261,28,17,74,123,36,19,55,188, 27,21,13,035,31*7A<0x0D><0x0A>

I don't understand what the debug info is telling me, nor why it works sometimes and not others. Can anyone suggest some troubleshooting steps?

Thank you.

MerMike.
The sentences you've listed are all satellite status info only. No position no COG no SOG no nothing else.
The communication is well working though so if you can set the Inseego to transmit also e.g. GPRMC, GPGGA, it will be fine.

Re: InSeego MiFi as GPS data source.

It also looks like your GPGSV sentences are not complete, which may indicate a problem on the MiFi device. GPGSV messages are sent as a group, with information on up to four satellites in each sentence.

In your GPGSV sample the first number is ‘3’, this indicates there are three messages in the group. The second number is the message within the group. In your sample there are ‘1’s and ‘2’s, but no ‘3’.

The third number, ‘12’ in your sample, is the number of satellites being reported. At 12 satellites/4 satellites per message = 3 messages to transmit all the data. That meshes with what the device is reporting ‘three messages on the way’, but the third message is not showing up. It looks like you are getting your groups once per second, so there should be plenty of bandwidth to fit that third message (and the location information that should follow), so my guess would be a firmware bug in the MiFi.
