Importing GPX file from Predict Wind Offshore App

Forgive me if this issue has been addressed. I am having problems importing a .gpx file onto Open CPN (version 5.6.2) running on a 2023 macbook pro (OS 13.2.1 Ventura)

From the Route and Mark Manager Icon on Open CPN, I click on the Import GPX tab and select the file - nothing shows up - anywhere. I have been able to import other gpx files but none from the predict wind offshore app.

I am trying to download a route that the Predict Wind Offshore app created based on a current Grib. Could it be that the format of the PW Offshore gpx file is somehow incompatible with Open CPN? Is there anything I can do to remedy this situation?

Thanks,

Wayne

It is not a GPX file, just some binary crap inside.

Funny - because I can import it from the Predict Wind app to my Navionics app on my I pad and it creates a route with several waypoints.

This is the content of the file you posted, simply not GPX, no application in the world could import it as GPX.

This just in. i imported the aforementioned .gpx file from the Predict Wind app to the Navionics app. it created a route on Navionics and I imported that onto the Open CPN app and here's what I got!

Re: Importing GPX file from Predict Wind Offshore App

The file you posted is not GPX, it is an Apple binary property list file, which, among other fields, contains a name of what maybe is a real GPX file. Being 188 bytes long, it in no way may contain a route with dozens of points.
Navionics very likely opens that file and loads the route from it.

Re: Importing GPX file from Predict Wind Offshore App

nohal,

What the OP posted was not the gpx file itself (as you observed). It is an Apple binary structure called a binary property list. It's a pointer to the actual gpx file, not the gpx file itself. The OP could import it on an Apple device because it's an Apple data structure.

I'm not an Apple user so I don't know why the PredictWind app exports it this way instead of the way every other application does it. Must be a Mac thing .

Re: Importing GPX file from Predict Wind Offshore App

Well, I am using Predictwind Offshore on a Mac myself. It exports normal GPX. I honestly have no idea how the OP managed to get the plist instead...
