HOW TO OPEN/CLOSE LAYER POIS FOR EDITING?

I have´nt been using the OpenCPN function to create info POI´s for a while.
Although I managed to create the POI´s successfully,I can´t seem to remember how to close/open the waypoint POI for future editing.

All my old POI´s in the layers file are closed for editing but re starting OCPN still shows my new POI´s as open for editing?

I have used the ´Lock waypoints´ feature in Potions but there is no change?

I have stored all the layers in the C:/ProgramData directory.

Re: HOW TO OPEN/CLOSE LAYER POIS FOR EDITING?

Tore, hopefully this'll refresh your memory...as you know, Layers are not meant to be editable, so contortions are required.

First, make a copy of the layer you want to edit and call it "LayerToEDit.gpx" or whatever and save it somewhere...This is the one You are going to edit, and replace the old one with.

Now, "clear the deck" in the route-manager . I prefer really CLEARED per deleting everything as in method 2 but method 1, "visibility toggled" of your other stuff not wanted in the layers, works, but is clumsier

Method 1)
In the new version, 3.2, you can toggle visibility.(eyeball icon crossed out )but really, the first step is to check and make sure you have "Unlisted" layer waypoints. The next step is to un- toggle visibility of all existing waypoints and routes and layers to NOT-visible. Only visible waypoints and routes will be exported and that's why this method can be used, compared to older versions of O....

Method 2)... make backups of routes and waypoints that you want to keep and delete all..(.this is the old way to edit layers)

NOW, Double-check that NO waypoints or routes are "visible" in the Route-manager-the deck is cleared for action

NOW, you can"Import" LayerToEdit.gpx and commence editing it. When done, "Export" it to save your changes....
Be aware that only visible waypoints and routes will be exported.

EVEN SIMPLER: make a portable version of OpenCPN for just such a purpose as this ...It would save "clearing the deck" which will be really confusing if you do it wrong...example would be: a layer is "visible" while you are editing a copy of it!

Happy..
Can´t remember soo many burning hoops the last time I edited a POI. Has something changed? I thought any new POI would be saved in the waypoint file selected and stored in the hidden C:/ProgramData file as a closed file which opens by default every time you start OCPN.

The edit Button doesn't seem to work but the above does.

Re: HOW TO OPEN/CLOSE LAYER POIS FOR EDITING?

Of course!! I remember now.. It´s dead easy...

I have grouped my POI layer files into countries.

1. If I wish to add or alter an existing POI in my Brazil group,I make sure the waypoints area
of the Route Manager is empty. I then add the waypoint and select a suitable icon from the list.
I add the description and links to the POI. It will now appear in the waypoints area.

2. Now,Import the country POI group you wish to add the new POI into. Finally Export the
country POI group to the C:/ProgramData/opencpn/layers directory (default) and you´re done.
Now,remember to delete ALL the files in the waypoints area.
All you have to do now is the re start OpenCPN and all should be in place.

Same procedure if you want to edit an existing POI but skip # 1. above

Happy..

You are absolutely right... I HAVE a copy of all my UserIcons as well as all my POI´s
in a parallell directory to OpenCPN as well as on my Google cloud drive.
Thanks for your help.
